Looking to add upgrades to my 2008 Evo X MR - Graphite Grey (GG)

I have a stock 2008 MR GG and I am looking to start some upgrades to it. I have some ideas (listed below), but I am looking for more options/ideas. Also, if you would let me know where to purchase the upgrades. I do not have a ton of money to drop on upgrades, so I am looking for modest upgrades/small tweaks here and there that would be beneficial for the overall ride. I would like to get it dyno tuned once the exhaust & upgrades are installed. Besides the tails and HU, I am looking for upgrades that will increase the performance & handling.

I am looking to buy these upgrades in stages, not all at once. I plan on having for Christmas time.

These are some of the things I have been thinking about getting....

- Dual exhaust (Borla, Cobb, or Greddy) ... from what I've been told I want a Hi-Flo Catback.

- Ralliart Tails; to replace the stock OEM red tails in the 08.

- New Headunit w/touchscreen because the stock HU is crap.

if you dont really plan to track a lot if at all, then a nice set of springs like swift spec r's will be good as itll also make the car look less like a 4x4.. with a catback, you should be fine without a tune, but once u go catless dp and tp, then you will.. other than that, an intake and upper i/c pipe is all youll need and a tune, or at the very least an OTS map off an accesport.

Seems like you are a little new to modding; so am I, but i will try to help you based on what i know.

First of all, i'll correct some mistakes in your post. Cobb currently makes a quad tip, not a dual tip.
You mention a High-flo 'catback'.. It's a High Flow Cat (catalytic converter) that you want. That part replaces your catalytic converter with one that flows better.
The 'cat-back' part that you speak of is the straight-pipe and muffler, which connects from the back of the High flow Cat.
^those two mods: High flo cat, and cat-back exhaust is where you want to start.

You mention not wanting to spend too much. Well the general consensus is that you get what you pay for. ETS and AMS are top-notch brands, but it is $$$$$$.. I also like Cobb. IMO, there won't be a difference in performance between brands for exhaust parts, I.E. a cobb HFC will probably yield the same gains as a ETS HFC. The difference i see the most is how long the parts last before wearing down/ cracking / breaking.

Get the stuff online, the best place is probably in this forum. Look under 'marketplace' and PM a vendor.

oh, right. if you're just sticking with the cat-back, you won't need a tune, but once you drop that high-flo cat in there, you should probably consider a tune.

a HFC (hifloCat) and Cat-back along with a tune will turn your car into a whole new beast.

Thanks guys ^^ .... I appreciate the explanation of the HFC and CB exhaust. I am glad I know the difference now. As you can tell, I am definitely NEW to modding and the entire EVO world. I just purchased my car 5/18/12 so this is new to me. The only change to the car I have made was the tint, K&N drop in air filter, and replaced the front brake pads.

When I said that I didn't have a lot to drop on mods, I meant that I do not have 10k+ to spend as I've seen in some postings. Anything that I put on my car I want it to be top notch, I will not put some cheap **** on my car.

I absolutely want to take my car to the track, I just have not had the time to make the events in NJ.

I would like to get the Hi-Flo Cat w/Catback Exhaust & definitely get a tune.

I would also like to get some smaller add-ons such as the intake, etc. that you listed. Can you go into a little more detail as far as what the "OTS map off an Accessport" is and what the benefits of me having one are?

Also, what kind of "upper i/c pipe" & "intake" do you recommend?

If you would, please give a rough estimate for each part. Thanks a lot!

I read an article today in "Super Street" about BOVs and how they would be beneficial for someone with an Evo, STI, etc.

I saw a nice HKS BOV in the article....What are your guys thoughts on this and do you recommend me getting one? Thanks Again!!

Missed this thread earlier. Check out our site.

http://www.extremeturbosystems.com

We have three options for catbacks.

Extreme
Normal
Quiet

As well as a HFC test pipe and more!

Thanks,

Michael

Before you start getting stuff for your car, I would suggest getting a set of winter tires (unless you already have all season tires). I got my car last December and lost traction three days later when the temperature was in the 40s.

If you're not going to track it just yet, I would start with the HU and tail lamps. Power mods won't do much for you in traffic jams.

I'd do ETS catback and testpipe with a quality professional tune. It'll be like a whole different car.

If u want to take it to the track I'd say get exhaust, downpipe, high flow cat, electronic boost controller and a good tune. That would put u somewhere around 12.6 and make for a lot of fun. Not too expensive either
