yes, dont stray away from the 08. the 08 is also the only model year which allows you to brake boost. scratch that, i think early 10 can also brake boost. it was starting from 11 or late 10 when they changed that.

just because you purchase a 10 or 11 or 12 doesn't mean you'll get a problem free evo. my 08 has been a trooper for 80k miles. is my 08 special in any way? nope. i just know how to drive my car and take care of its crucial components.

nice!

hey scarryy, is your tranny getting smoother? the reason i ask is because i used to have the 2-3 shift grind issue but right around 65k miles, i noticed the grind was gone. the shift feel smoother as well.

i'm not sure if i just got better at shifting this 5spd tranny or if the gears are worn out a little (sort of broken-in now i suppose).

tranny fluid was changed @ 60k but the oem fluid was used so it cant be that.

Again, good to hear because its soooooo much easier to find an 08 for sale than a newer one and I can save some money for upgrades then

2008 is fine to buy, remember it is only a very very small percentage of cars that have problems with chain stretch and diff pins.

It is rare you even see a thread regarding the problem. Go on a Subaru forum and a thread about ringlands failures pops up 2-3 a month LOL.

I have an 08 MR and the red guage cluster doesn't bother me a bit. I kind of like it actually, it's not distracting. That being said I also have a 10 GSR and the color guage is nicer to look at, but are we driving an Evo to look at gauges? If I wanted to look at a pretty guage I'd go back to driving an Audi. I also like the 08 side skirts not that the 10-13 ones are bad but the 08's are simple and clean looking. Buy what you like best and is affordable. As with any car an older higher mileage car will be more likely to need maintenance and have been abused. This is not a low maintenance car it's a moderate maintenance car, expect to buy tires more often and do brakes and other wear items more than usual.

Are 2010s affected by the cheap pulleys?

I'm in the same boat as you, not sure if the tranny is smoother now, or I am. Still a little notchy when cold, but that's about it... I use it as my warm up indicator, when the shifts get smooth I'm ready for WOT!

Like most have said. I would entertain a 2010 or newer. Our 2011 is for sale, if you're looking for a close to new Evo.

the same plastic pulleys on the 08 is being used on all model of evo x.

the only part/parts of the engine that was changed from the 08-->10/11/12/13 are as follow:

-late 11 and on evox come with the new, beefier/heavier time chain
-plastic valve cover instead of metal/aluminum
-factory tune on 08 is pig rich. 2010 and above evo x come with better tune.

did i miss anything??
