as far as i know, these 4b11t's are notorious for a loud tick. why is everyone acting like its a knock? its a tick, all our engines tick, he probly just didnt realize it before he left the stealership. I say the tick is just a normal function of the engine its self (as with any of our engines).
as for the pads- yes, theyre going to squeal, thats normal for an evo. also- expect a lot of brake dust
as for the reverse lights: it could be the bulbs, but the fact that theyre both out means it *most likely* isnt... but hell, go buy a pack of two bulbs for $4 and see first. otherwise, have the reverse light switch checked out (usually mounted on the transmission, i have no idea where on the evo x)
the shakey idle might be an incorrect or unconnected vacuum fitting, nothing too bad.... look around the engine bay, make sure everything is buttoned up
final words of wisdom: get a tune

Any person who owns X knows it has a ticking sound and its normal. However, without hearing how loud your particular tick is, its hard to say if its normal or not. Best bet would be to take a video and send it to us. Looks like he bought it from a toyota dealer so I'd like to think they'd be alarmed by this loud ticking sound and addressed it.

Mine has ticked since day one with 4 miles on it. Is it a tick or a knock? Big difference
alright everyone good news!!!! sorry for not clarifying if it was a tick or nod. took it to my local evo shop called jms(look them up on youtube) guy said ticking sound is from the injectors and that it is normal, i told him to take it for a drive and he said everything works and runs well, went to auto zone got new back up light bulbs and that fixed the problem. he also fixed the idle and better secured the vaccum line the car is now running in prestine condition stock and i just bought my first mod today, a ets intake

I think everyone is over reacting
The ticking might be normal these engines do tick a little more than an average car, he might just not be used to it and think there is something wrong.
The break squealing might be normal as well the stock breaks squeal allot especially when it gets cold.
Reverse light is just a bulb $5 at autozone
The idle is the only thing I would worry about. Either it still has the crappy factory tune (the 08's were notorious for having a rough idle) or it was modified returned to stock and never flashed back to factory tune. You might want to take it to the dealer and have them flash the latest tune for 08's

Newbie
I'd be extremely pissed if i started noticing issues with the car on the way back home from the dealer.

Well yes, injectors will make noise, as he stated thats how its been diagnosed. My simple point was, when you go that far to buy a car and something is wrong, the dealership needs to be made aware.. Hypothetically, in this case, if the diagnosis is in fact wrong, the dealer would know about it in the case of it being a serious issue. This being the only way to hold them accountable
