So, close it up you think?
There is a thread on here where a guy said he solved the fume smell, and then pointed out that the duct had fell out of the hole and was lodged inbetween the bumper and the car. Its designed to allow the boot (or trunk as you call it lol) to 'breath'.
It stops crap and fumes coming into the car. but if you have a sub, allows for air movement. I think its just got a couple of rubber flaps or something

I know that in the IX's when you pull out the cheap paneling in the trunk and look down in the sides between the outerfender and where it attached in the trunk (where most people put methanol tanks) you can see a little flapper door that goes VTA.

I dont know much about the X's but you should check this out. One might have gotten stuck open if the X's have them.

I would take a pic of what I'm talking about but I am at my old house packing gettting ready to move into a new place this weekend if I remember I will.

So here are the pics I said I would get for you. I forgot how incredibly easy they open, you literally barely have to touch them and it opens so if you have a sub pushing air around I would say that is the culprit and why you are smelling exhaust in the cabin.

What it looks like when you pull the paneling away

How the vent opens

What it looks like when shut

Could you use some duct tape to tape the thing shut and then make small breather holes or flaps with an X-acto knife?

Thanks for the pics, mine doesn't even have one fitted. Just a big hole where one should be.
Might get one bought, as it's worth a try

I'm not 100% sure and I'm just throwing this out there but does the RS use a bigger fuel pump? My buddy has an S13 with a Walbro 255lph and you smell that thing and hear it more than a stock pump as well. Just a little bit of info I had lying around in my brain bank, let me know if it helps

Honestly I don't think that a higher capacity fuel pump would cause a smell especially if it's in the tank. I put a 255lph walbro in my S14 and it did not smell like gas when everything got plugged back up and sealed.

I think the OP is having issues with smelling exhaust fumes in his car not fuel right?

No problem I'd like to get down to the bottom of it if possible. Maybe you have a small exhaust leak the comes into the cabin through those breathers in the boot somehow :S

Also you might want to (if you don't have one already) upgrade your exhaust system to a single out which dumps out to the right of the car. If the breather is where the sub is that should put your exhaust gasses floating up and to the opposite side of the trunk.

if you get one that sticks out just a tad from the diffuser you should be able to clear the trunk area no problem given that heat rises.

That's really not a bad idea. Maybe you can ghetto rig something for your exhaust pipes to extend past the rear bumper and see if it makes a difference (if they were tucking into the rear bumper previously). It can even be something like the trunk weather stripping that may be allowing exhaust gases to travel back into the trunk (the gases turbulate behind the car when released, it doesn't seem impossible for some of those fumes to get sucked back into the trunk). I'm uncertain but give it shot, you'll find the solution soon!

You might want to look in here for inspiration.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...st-thread.html

To really show what I suggested have a look at the JIC Spartan DE Type 1. Single outlet to the right and clears the diffuser completely.

There are plenty of exhaust systems on that thread that don't even make it half way out the diffuser those are definitely a problem for fumes and partially for drone too.
