New 08 GSR Owner here

Hey guys, name's Eric if you care to know. I just bought an 08 GSR yesterday and needless to say, I'm in love with the car. I can't tell you jack squat about it, besides the fact that its super quick.

My previous car before this was a 06 Scion tC...but who gives a crap about that ?

On a more serious note, I came from the DSM scene. I've owned 4 different DSM's, most recently, my project: an AWD swapped GST. It had the rare black leather interior, the great 7 bolt split thrust block for starters, then i swapped out the rods and pistons from one from an evo 8, kelford cams, ecuflash/ceddymods, holset hx35, the goodies go on and on...but the car had no oil pressure and I decided to part it out rather than screw around with dumping more cash into fixing it...i just decided to get an Evo!

I have tons of questions, but I'm used to forums...use the search button. Hopefully the platform isnt TOO different from the dsm's but I'm looking forward to making some mods (the car is my DD so nothing but an intake/exhaust and maybe a tune)

Congrats. Wait until you get a few bolt-ons and a tune, "super quick" starts to get redefined.

I had an 05 Scion tC. I have to admit I drove the hell out of my tC for 60k miles and never had a single problem with it. It handled well and held up great. I got rid of it because I missed not having boost and didn't want to deal with the TRD s/c or a turbo kit, but for just a DD, they rock. (wish I had an 07+ with the nice tail lights though)

Here's a few of my old tC

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure what I plan on getting first but I wanna keep my mods simple. I'm thinking boost gauge (which I have from my eclipse), uicp (from what I read), intake, wideband, and a good tune.

I've been reading up on ecuflash on the X and it seems to yield some pretty decent results, but I'm not doing anything until I have a wideband in.

As for the tC, it does kick *** as a DD. The one thing I appreciated most is just how many features it came with that are missing from the Evo (aux jack and cig charger in the center console, FUEL ECONOMY, roof, etc)

Sucks that you got the 08GSR, I have an 11GSR and I have AUX input, USB input, sunroof, different center console, etc. The only things, the sunroof isn't the same, but my 05 sunroof shattered in on me once, so I'm cool with a real roof, and I miss the one touch up/down windows for the passenger side.

My suggestions for your 08. Any reputable intake (even a drop in filter really), UICP, LICP, TP or HFC and CBE and a tune. Opensource can do wonders on your 08, even support multiple maps for summer/winter, E85, etc with the Tephra mod.

Unless '08's are different than '11's....there should be a cig lighter plug right there for you. The SSS package definitely has aux in (red/white RCA's oddly, but that's an easy cable fix) but I'm not sure about without it... There also may or may not be a hidden USB port in the left side of the glove box. I know they updated the tech stuff some for the '10 and '11 model years so I'm not sure what was there in the '08's, but look around!

The one touch windows were AWESOME! I dont care so much about the aux input or cig lighter. I only used the lighter to charge my phone, but I have a nice Pioneer Avic that I took out of my Eclipse that is gonna go..you guessed it...in the Evo lol. I was reading about dash kits...and idk if I'm gonna go with what's available or go with what looks best.

Here's a quick question: where to put gauges?

Oh, here's some pics too The snow is what I woke up to this morning

With the 08's it's not uncommon for people to put 3 52mm gauges in the console below the AC controls.

I opted for the A-Pillar. I went with the (coveted) DSG 2gauge pillar. I love it. It was a little pricey and took awhile to get though. There is a member on the "other" forum that has started making them this year to fill the demand. There's a rexspeed a-pillar too, but it's just a cover for the stock a-pillar.

This is with my prosport boost gauge installed. As soon as my wife stops bleeding my wallet on christmas gifts I'm going to get the wideband. I've been putting it off for like 5 months now.

Are those Work Emotions or Rota Torques ? They look great, just not used to seeing aftermarket wheels with stock offset ^__^

Yeah Work Emotions are hot. It's why I love the look of my Torques, I'm just too often finding situations were curb-rash happens so had to go the long-term affordable route

I love the look of the aero kit (looks like the factory available one, but it looks great)

Car looks great, I just got my 2012 GSR with the handling pack(Canada), basically with BBS, 2 piece rotors and bilstein shocks with eibach springs in this exact color and I love the way it looks in your pictures.

I am also a former dsm owner, had a 91 tsi awd with around 250 on a ported 14b and then went all out and got a built 97 awd tsi with ~500whp, gt35, meth, the works. Every time I think about Bexy(I named her that after the plates BEXY 209 ) I can't help but get a tear in the eye.

I was going to be a responsible young profesional and get a s4 or a 4 door 335xi but I'm glad I went back to my roots. Wish I had a sunroof though but thats about it, if my apartment was big enough I would park it in the living room.

Do you know what was it lowered with? Any other mods other then rims? Also what tires and what size are you running? And the tint looks good even though I always prefer visibility over it. I'm in snowy Canada, be careful.
