Not a bad deal. I'd trade it up if they offered 0% financing!

Today (and every few months for that matter) I get a letter from the dealership I bought my car at stating they need it and will buy it back at over book value. They are computer printouts that are made to look like handwritten notes from the sales manager, pretty pathetic.

If I had bought a GSR or MR, I might consider it, but being that I have the SE, I'd prefer to keep it. Dealers make huge money on used cars but I doubt there's much of a market for Evos. In the end it just seems like a way for them to get you on a new loan and more money in their pocket.

I could hear another sales guy in the background coaching him.

Sales marketing gimmick...they do it here all the time. Letters, phone calls, and sales pitches when your at the dealer for service. Just another way for them to get you into a new car and refinance

This. It's a way for them to move their 2013 inventory, get you to refinance and make money of your trade-in. It's fairly standard industry practice. If they make 2014 Evo's they'll be calling you for your '13.

Besides it being a 2013. Are there any differences between them?

I'd go for it, but make the dealer work hard for it!

I got a letter kinda like this right before I sold my IX. Except it was a personally typed letter from my local dealer asking me if I'd come trade in my IX since people on their lot were asking where to find a used IX. They said the bluebook value has recently risen and they would like to make me a deal.

After receiving the letter, I checked the blue book and noticed it was rather high compared to when I last checked. About 2K more. So I ignored them and listed my IX for sale private party and sold it within 2 weeks for a whopping $24,000 for a 59,000 mile IX still needing 60K service. Couldn't have been happier.

Now I have an X and I doubt the value will rise like my IX did unless they kill the Evo altogether. So I'll hang out and see what happens with my X.

Dealerships do this for several reasons:

To refinance you into a new loan. Many of us got our cars with 0% financing in 2009. If you trade it in you will not be getting the same deal.

They make a lot of money on used cars. Just because they tell you that they'll give you X amount, don't count on it. It's a foot-in-the-door strategy to get you in. I get letters all the time, and they even call me. I've told them before very bluntly that I do not want to trade in and I want them to stop calling me. I still get missed calls from them every month.

Very common sales marketing gimmick. They will change their terms as soon as you set foot in the dealership.

Other than fuel pump relays and diff pins, probably not much.

They get you in, make you sell your car to them first (since you can't have two new car loans usually), then "try" to refinance you into the newer car. Whooops! You don't qualify for 0% interest anymore, gonna need more money down or a mediocre interest rate. You've already signed your car over to them, and now you're stuck in buying one of theirs. Oh, and you don't get the $5k extra in cash, you can only use that towards another car on the lot.

They tell you what you want to hear until you actually show up on the lot. But you should have got the guys name and showed up and be firm on what you want and say that the dude on the phone was telling you this and that. But if it's legit I'd definitely get a 2013.
