OEM vs. Aftermarket Skid Plate

Hey Guys (and Gals)

Well after a grueling 1800 mile road trip, my skid plate has been obliterated. I live in Colorado, where we plow our roads, apparently in Texas that sentiment is not shared and everyone drives a truck. Does anyone have a bead on where I can buy either an OEM Skid Plate (don't tell me stealer-ship) or have a link to an aftermarket company? Thanks so much!

Brett

You have three options: (1) replace the OE plastic, (2) move up to an aluminum undertray, such as that linked-to above, or (3) get a real skid plate, such as that sold by Thompson Racing Fabrication. Note that only the third should be called a "skid-plate."

Thanks to you both, that was a great help. And I agree the Factory "Skid Plate" should be called a dust shield.

If you don't rallycross or otherwise bang the car around on gravel, then I'd get the SSP undertray because it is lighter and has access ports for oil-changes. If you do plan to off-road, then get a real skid-plate, but be ready for the extra work involved, since real skidplates do not have access ports. They can, however, take the entire weight of the car. It is difficult to describe the incredible peace of mind that a real skidplate provides. It's like DILYSI, but knowing that you'll still be able to go to work on Monday.

I have the SSP under tray and its great! (Even though I have a RA) it's very sold and a lot better then the plastic one I can tell you that. If you plain on buying it I would recommend also buying some rubber washers for the bolts. The powder coating is starting to break off on mine.
