Anyone Running Stock CB w/ DP & HFC

Good Morning gents

I plan on buying some exhaust components soon for my MR. I was thinking of doing a similar setup I had on my VIII a few years back, which was upgrading the DP with either the ETS all in one unit or the COBB or AMS DP, installing a HFC and leaving the stock CBE. I like the quiet mellow sound.

I can't imagine the stock CBE offering up much restriction past the Cat.

Anyone running something similar? Pros/Cons.

Thank you

Of course it can be done but it just seems impractical.

IMO if you’re going to go through the trouble of installing a new HFC and downpipe, why not get a CBE too? There are many Catback options available that are not loud at all and are more free flowing than the stock unit.

I run a test pipe but the stock CBE. It certainly frees things up a bit, and it's almost as quiet as stock. I like it.

Couple of reasons I guess. First of all, many cars these days come straight from the factory with a relatively free flowing CBE. Correct me if I'm wrong. To me, rather than spend hundreds of dollars on a CBE that only nets a small gain, I'd rather spend that money on other parts.

Also, I'm 39 years old, so I am past the point age-wise of having something to loud or aggressive sounding. I've got kids to drop off at school you know!

I've only had the car a month or so. I haven't had the time to really get up under it and inspect the stock CBE for quality and flow characteristics.

I've heard the Invidia, Cobb, ETS Quiet & Magnaflow are good options

Yea, I'm not sure how well the stock CBE exhaust flows.

If you’re chasing HP numbers then eventually you'll want to switch it out. But if your happy with it then keep it and spend the money on something else.

In the end I think you'll end up switching it out anyway, since it's such an easy modification to do. Modding is an addiction and eventually you’ll get that itch for something new.

I have no personal experience with "quiet" exhaust systems since I went the complete opposite direction. But I'm sure others could chime in with specific CBE options on the quiet side.

Thanks for the responses - probably right, I will upgrade at some point. For now, I am ordering an ETS HFC today and then on the UICP kit, 3 port solenoid, Access Port and a tune.

then, I'm ordering the SSP Tranny Cooler

I sorta have that setup. I'm rocking the MAP recirc downpipe with the QTP electric cut out test pipe and stock catback. With the QTP cut out im getting 22hp more then with it closed. I went this route so sometimes i can be quite and sometimes i can be a loud *** mothersmucker.

cool, I like that sort of option, would be nice for track use, but I'd like to have a high flow cat rather than a straight through setup.

I sort of tried that route just running a high flow cat on a stock exhaust. The exhaust really seems to be a restriction. I then went with the Buschur Crossflow. I actually get less cabin drone then just with the high flow cat and stock exhaust and it is just as quiet on the highway as stock. Flooring it or going up hill it is obviously louder.

For a while I ran just the AMS DP and Mil.spec 100 cell cat with stock catback. It was great and all but I guess I was hoping for a little more sound so I slapped on the magnaflow catback and couldn't be happier. It not too loud but loud enough.
