Need some re assurance in modding

So my fiance has an evo X se. So far its completely stock, nothing done to it. Its got right at 30k miles now.

I want to do some basic mods to it. However, I am nervous cause of the trasnmission lol. Its the new sst trans and it makes so many little noises, which I have read are normal. For me though, having a 9, I dont hear any of this crap. So for modding her car, I always think, if something goes wrong, its under warranty lol. Once you mod, bye bye warranty lol.

I want to do a set of coilovers, some sbc rpf1s with 265's, catback exhaust, intake and maybe intercooler and piping, then a tune.

I just cant make that jump to start modding. I get so worried the car is gonna backfire on me and two weeks after an exhaust, something will happen and the dealer will tell me tough lol.

This is why I buy used I think lol. No warranty to start with, so MOD AWAY!!

From what I've read the SST seems to be a fairly strong transmission (excluding the overheating issues during track days). I would say go for it, as a general rule of thumb...anything before the MAF and anything after the cat is fair game. It would be hard for Mitsu to void your powertrain warranty due to a simple cat-back exhaust....the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is your failsafe should they try. As long as your well versed and knowledgable on the pars installed on your vehicle then your ok. They would have to do some trickery to pull that off. I have heard of how critical Mitsu is when it comes to warranty claims but your always protected by law. Do it and don't look back.

Obviously the coils and wheels are fine unless you are trying to warranty a wheel bearing or something.

The tune is a little different but usually they deny the engine warranty.. Which they prolly should. The tranny one should be fine. Catback should be ok too. If you are at 30k miles the tranny should be fine anyway though. The ones that fail are usually <20k miles and its a sensor of some sort. Once they make it pass there, it should be fine.

This gives me a little assurance from some fellow 10 owners lol. Our mitsu dealer here is terrible lol. I can see them fighting me over anything.

Truth is, I'm running out of things to do with my 9, so I was gonna start playing with hers some now lol.

The TCM on the SST if there were any electrical issues can always be reflashed for the AWC system aswell. When you do get your beautiful RPF1's make sure to get an aftermarket wheel speed sensor and TPMS cause if they read abnormal readings from your RPF1 set up it can cause your AWC system to fail, wont do any harm at all, but won't let you enjoy the car to the fullest as you should and is just annoying. I've worked on my X MR and make 340hp/329tq @22psi and have never had any issues with my SST. Just once you hit over 380-400hp i recommend that you get the SSP clutch packs. If your car is still under warranty with no tune what so ever on your ECU the dealer should not give you any problems. Basic bolts on like exhaust and intake won't void your warranty. Anything with remapping your ECU will void your warranty, i'm a tech and our scan tools can find out easily if the ECU has been tampered with. Till your warranty runs out if your worried just do simple bolt ons and cosmetics, then after start having some real fun

Since your profile says Illinois. Go to Boostin, they know how to mod cars with the TC-SST, its where im taking my ralliart for a evo swap. The block is indestructible, so just get a clutch pack and cooler from SSP and go from there and you'll have a reliable DD

I can't hold your hand while you mod, but I can correct your misconceptions. All of the important aspects of the warranty on an Evo are fully transferable. If the warranty is expired, then knock yourself out, but very few Evo X are completely out of warranty.

What I meant was, like with my evo 9, its well out of warranty, so I can just mod away. Cause I know if anything happens, it comes out of my pocket book lol. Yea, most X's are still under warranty for the most part.

In response to what was said above about Boostin. Thats prolly where I will take her car for a tune. I want the absolute best daily driveability for her and the car. Im not looking to make any big hp numbers. Just a solid tune with some bolt ons, 50hp gain maybe. Just something fun for her!

Sorry. I didn't know your car had 60,000 miles on it. Carry on.

just about 66k now.

I should have clarified more lol

I actually was looking into buying a 10 after I sold my 03 and before i bought my 06. I found a blue one that I was really interested in, it was a gsr. Being as it was still in warranty, it was one of the reasons I opted out lol. I just get frustrated trying to mod something with a warranty lol

This is news to me. Please explain, and be specific, and please identify a source for a third party speed sensor for the Evo X.
