Tune question about e85 and 93.. Open source.
So I want to get a retune soon on e85.. Should I buy a cobb before hand to get tuned for two maps one for e85 and one for 93? Just incase I go on a road trip, etc.. Ill be getting retuned at JMS Racing when I already paid $450 for my first tune and I was told $150/hr after that.. They said it would take 3 hours for both maps so that would come out to $450 again, does the price sound right and should I go with the cobb to do both maps? I was also wondering if Cobb in Austin, TX could do this too? All input would be great, thank you!
if you already have a tune with open source then you can run tephra X and use the dual map switching abilities. you dont need a AP to do that.
price sounds pretty good for 2 map tunes. just tell them you want to use tephra. if not then use cobb.
but with tephra you can use cruise control to switch to alt map or throttle position sensor etc.

I'm with everyone else, if you are already OpenSource, just get the Tephra mod. It has great features besides the map switching.
Also, if you went with an AP, you would be spending:
$500-ish for an AP + new 93oct tune + E85 tune.
You can't just "copy-paste" the OS tune you have to the AP.
If you go with the TephMod you won't have to touch your current tune (unless you still have small injectors and stock pump), however, it will take less time to rescale injectors on your current tune than start all over.

Tephra mod + with alt maps feature.. just flick maps with your cruise control
I heard from a little birdy that soon with a fuel analyzer we should be able to have auto switching maps depending on your E-85 content.

The price quoted for the dual fuel tune sounds fair. My tuner (Cobb Plano) drained the tank to make sure there was no 93 left before they put the E85 in. Also, I believe winter blends of E85 are closer to 75/25 and not true 85/15 so the tuner will probably compensate for that and you might get slightly better power with a summer blend.

You can EASILY get a used AP for 300, they have been all over the marketplace. Plus if you want all the monitoring tools the AP provides its worth the buy. AP is a awesome tool you can carry around to check out your car, codes, ect. on the fly with out lugging around a lap top.
