I believe I was veering left the first several times I heard it, which led me to believe it was the front left bearing. That soon became either direction and now it does it going straight as well. I suppose I'll have them check the front suspension components, boots, CV joints etc. for starters.

That's not quite enough for me to change my best guess. I'm sticking with diff pins.

ps. if the noise was originally during a left turn, that would suggest a right-side wheel bearing; they are usually louder when loaded

Do your self a quick check and see if your tires are chopped ,I had a 08 gsr and it sounded like the sound your hearing my tires only had 10,000( not the oem tires but goodyear) on them and that was the issue bad alignment and toasted the inner tread resulting in a horrible rummble , got new tires and bam drove like new.

Check your tires listened to the vid again and the symptoms were exactly the same as what I had, sounds like the whole drivetrain is falling apart got new tires problem gone.

Sounds like a diff bearing man. Had the same issue with my '12 5.0 (warranty didn't cover it so I had Fastlane tear the rear-end apart, turns out the preload on the carrier bearing wasn't set correctly from the factory). Exact same sound as your talking about and it progressivly got worse. The best advise I can give you is try and get it up on a lift. Raise it up and put the car in gear, get the wheel speed up to about 30 mph and have someone listen to your differentials. Only then can you pinpoint the noise and correctly diagnose the problem.

i had the same noise too but it comes and goes. took it to the dealer who of course coudln't reproduce it. he said it was the snow tires. and depending on surface. then he tried one last thing which reproduced the noise. he had it on a lift and hooked up mut3 and activated just the rear differential. there's the noise as he wound up the pump.

according to him, they are noisy...whether it's from weather, tires, and etc. the colder it is the harder the pump has to work. it's perfectly normal. although he did say he has replaced the pump on it before but unless it blows up, mitsu won't warranty it.

when the pump lets go, you can still drive without damaging anything as it disassociate itself from the drivetrain as a fail safe.

The dealership agrees. They are changing the right bearing out now as well! I hope it's that simple but it's hard to be optimistic at this point.

Tires are brand spanking new. Car made the noise with the old tires too.

If the right bearing doesn't solve it then I will have to take it to someone else and suggest this.

Thanks for this! I will suggest the dealership try this method if the new bearing doesn't solve my problem.

Thanks all. I will keep this updated with results after they put in a right bearing on Friday!

Sorry to bump this old thread, but for future searchers:
The issue was the right wheel bearing. Thanks all for the suggestions.
