Animals do weird things. At my buddy's roofing company they had a snake crawl into the engine bay of a truck one time even though it only sat for a little while between uses. Let just say when they started the engine between the headers and the fan it was a mess!

It's rodents. I had this happen to me when I was stationed in Germany.they were chewing on my spark plug wires. They even chewed a hole in my intake tube and crawled in there.

I knew it was rodents because of droppings and one dead one in the intake tube.

(Happened while I was deployed) and it was in a 1990 Opel vectra.

Squirells ate my harness on my daily driver. It was a real pain in the azz to fix. Your pics remind of them but it can be rodents as well. Squirells tend to be clever since they would run in to keep warm and tend shoot out of my car once I went to start it up. Now im having flashbacks.

 

Rodents for sure, I bet they were looking for somewhere warm to hang out during the recent cold snap. Like kracka said call your insurance company they will cover it. This exact thing happened to a buddy of mine, gotta love those ny rats.

 

Ok so I got the car back today, and here's how they fixed it...basically replaced only the chewed area and reinsulated it with tape, charged me 522 in total. However, now the car feels weaker under normal driving and seems to take longer to get to 40, feels as if the rpm's stick in some areas (somewhere between 2-3k rpm), and as soon as i pulled out of their service center and drove for about 10 blocks a huge cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust smelling like soot or burned plastic (not like coolant). I drove the car for about 20 miles so far and i dont see any smoke now, however I do smell it after a wot pull and a stop. The car pulls strong, but feels somewhat hesitant in pre boost rpm range, once the boost kicks in it sort of rides on it if you know what i mean. And the smell I am talking about is like when someone with no cats goes WOT in front of you on the highway kind of smell. Could it be because the car flooded becauseI kept trying to start it before I found the problem? I will drive it for a couple of days and see if the symptoms go away, and im pretty sure its not just in my head. Also if you are wondering, the idle is fine and rpm's dont break up under wot (had that problem on my old evo IX due to a bad ignition coil). Any thoughts? I am definately not dealing with Manfredi anymore.

 

Also they sprayed WD40 all over the engine bay or some other type of greasy ****! Wth was that for?

 

wow that's a hella shady fix. They but connected or soldered all the wires?

 

I would look at it to see if they soldered everything. If not I wouldn't pay, that's just shady and will eventually lead to problems with failed connections.

And the repair job looks like crap

 

The 'grease' stuff is probably silicone spray to make the area a bit more water/weather resistant. Also given the fact that this was a main harness it probably would of cost you 3 times the amount to have the whole harnessed replaced since it weaves everywhere.

I would take it back and have them physically show you that they soldered the wires, but since you already paid, it's probably not going to happen.
