My X is nickel and diming me to DEATH!!!
Clutch is a wear & tear item, so really all you're looking at is $1,400 in unplanned maintenance over the course of 70k+ miles.
I do agree with AWDTerror, parking in gear puts extra stress on the entire powertrain. Park in neutral, let the powertrain relax, and use the parking brake.

Most stick the car in 1st or reverse, then let off brake, before setting the handbrake which puts stress on the chain.
Most people let their car roll in gear before they set the emergency brake. It's an old school way of thought, but what happens is that this puts undo stress on the chain because the clutch is engaged and trying to turn the motor. You can actually force your motor to turn over if you are on a steep enough hill.

This explains why you can pop the clutch to start a car. The car is off, clutch pedal is to the floor and the car is in gear. Once you gain enough speed, you release the clutch pedal and apply gas and the car will crank over. It makes perfect sense how it strains your motors supportive components(keeping it in gear parked that is).
CMC is butter on rice, the hardest part (which isn't hard at all with some experience) is bleeding the line.
Guys I never leave my car parked in 1st gear or any gear for that matter. I was getting timing errors and had the dealer check things out. They claimed everything was good however when I removed the valve cover the timing chain was out of spec so I had it replaced. It ran like a champ after it was replaced and more more timing CEL's.
There was a recall or TSB (I cant remember), for the timing chain for '08 EVO's. Got mine done for free at the dealership. Had to drive a crappy rental (a PT Cruiser....don't laugh...) for about a week.
Your doing great compared to me i dropped 6000 on my car when i first bought it my evo 8 that is with only 13000 miles on it. Driver before me really sucked at shifting. 1400 is nothing for a performance car. I mean how many sets of tires have u gone through thats prolly more money than all this stuff combined. Also how many times has the car been out of service? I think the evo is treating u great
Almost sounds like a girl problem but its my car that I so loved thus far.
1st it was the timing chain at 65k miles - $1400 dealer installed
2nd was the clutch at 69k miles - $750 I installed.
3rd was the ACD pump failing - $8, fixed it myself.
This is starting to get rediculous!!! I thought this was going to be a good car, boy was I wrong!!!

Did you just replace a seal and clean it up? wish i would have thought to rebuild mine before it failed on me...
The only thing I needed to buy was a box of M5x85 socket head bolts. My motor froze up on mine. I took it apart, cleaned the brushes put it back together and it works like a champ now. There was no way I was going to spend all that money on a new one. It was definately worth taking apart to see if I could repair it before searching for a new unit.
