Swapping a 2008 MR for a 2010 MR?

Hi all,

I have a 2008 MR with a Cobb AP and the 2010 Color LCD instrument panel. It's been a great car, and with 40K miles it still feels new. However, I can't help but think that the 2010's are the best of the Evo X breed since they have the improved TC-SST and still have the combo of high wing, BBS, and leather/glanluxe interior that isn't available in the decontented later models.

I'm assuming I can swap cars for a couple grand cash (I own my MR outright), is this just a stupid idea or should I pull the trigger and own the best example of the Evo X available? Or with the Color LCD and AP, do I already have the important bases covered?

Feel free to shake me of my madness.

Man if you own your X outright why would you get rid of it if its in such good shape. Take the money youll spend on a car payment and put it toward things like diff pin upgrades...power upgrades...and so on. Just because the 2010 has a couple of features that your 08 doesnt...does not justify spending the extra cash on a used X that you have no idea how it was treated or drivin. Honestly I would save up and build your car to the exact spec your looking for. Dont let a flashy interior steer you away from a solid running X.

I don't really care about the interior. I could have the 2010 interior for $500. I care more about the better TC-SST. I don't want a Touring either since I don't want a sunroof or the steel roof that comes with it.

Well in that case just send off your transaxle to get built...problem solved. Now your not in debt from trading out cars.

Wouldn't that also cost a couple of grand?

Youll be spending more than a couple of grand for a trade off as most of the newer Xs have low miles (from what ive seen here in NC)...even with the better transaxle your still going to run into cooling issues amd such. So why not just keep your car.. from your description it runs solid and no issues...and completely eliminate the worries associated with the tcsst altogether....

I just wouldnt advise for anyone to get rid of a good running car once its paid off however I will support you in whatever decision you make as a X is a X regardless of the year....

I really feel like this is a personal decision. If it were me, based on mileage, I would probably trade in and get the 10' Mainly because I think Mitsu did a better job on the 10's interior. Engine wise I really don't think there is that much of a difference. Then obviously there were all the "first year" issues people keep mentioning like timing chain and what not. In the end it's up to you OP. Do you really want another car payment though? Good luck!

I'd pay cash. No point in another car payment.

Man that's a HARRRRDDDD decision. Do you invest money into your current car, or buy a new one. Hmmmmmm, I would say, just invest some money in your current car. H***, if you were to drop $10k in your current car, you could def have something very nice, and dependable at that

*Edit, if you dropped 10k into your current car, it'd basically be like a new car anyways.

Also, is there any consensus on why the 2010s are so much faster than the 2008 in reviews? Is it just the stock tune or does the SST shift better?

Have you seen the dyno of the 2013 stock? If you do I don't think you will choose the 2010. Pls sell the 08 but before you do pls pull the cluster and sell to me. Thanks
