Mitsubishi is the one paying for any warranty claims. So the dealer knowing your car is modded doesn't mean dick.
Not sure how long you've been around the Lancer Evolution platform but they have been black flagging cars for modifications since 03. Nothing new here. Hell they used to go to local tracks and take down VIN and Plate numbers flagging cars that were racing so that if they came in f%^*ed up

Bye Bye warranty. Search this site back in 03-04 you'll find a *** load of voided warranties. Luckily I bought mine knowing damn well it never see a dealer the rest of it's life

Claim the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, fine. Mitsubishi has more time and money then you trust me. So while you car sits you keep paying

Fun Fun

Cool I'll see if they honor the free oil change in about 1500 miles. Thanks for everyone's replies.

I haven't been around that long, but I work at a dealership and I know how the process works.

Sounds like a ****ty dealership then, if they are flagging cars!

And again, the warranty can not be rendered 100% void by modifications. If you mod you can, it is unlikey they will pay your power train claims. But other things will still be covered. Hell, sometimes you can even mod you can and still have power train warranty claims covered. We just had this recently with an AWC pump on a modded car.

I wish the dealers here were cool like that. We have 3 Mitsu dealers and they are all ****ty dealers. I have bought 4 new Mitsubishi's and because of the ****ty dealers in my area, my Evo will be my last Mitsu purchase. The dealers here denied warranty work on my completely stock Eclipse over an issue that Mitsu put a TSB out over. I had to go through corporate to get it approved. Needless to say my Evo will remain completely stock until after 5 years 60K. Even being stock I have a feeling the dealerships would still give me hassle.

OP, honestly if you are worried I would just eat the $30 bucks and do it yourself or take it somewhere. I go to the dealership and buy the filter and then take it to my local lube shop and get it done. I would just do it myself but dont feel like dealing with the oil disposal or feel like getting up under the car and risking spilling oil in my driveway. I like my local lube shop cause I get to be in the bay and watch them and we usually talk cars.

.
The dealership has literally 0 ability to deny or approve a claim. In fact, it's in their best interest to advocate for the customer. Mitsubishi is the one paying for warranty claims. The dealership does not get to tell Mitsubishi how it can spend its money.

That said, some dealerships that are cool or "mod friendly" may over look certain things, or advocate for you more.

I wrote an article over in the FAQ section about warranties and how they work.

From what I have heard, and it may not be true since I dont work at a dealer, is that the dealers will try and deny some warranty work because they get paid a set amount from Mitsu. In my case it was replacing my convertible top. So Mitsu may only pay the dealer for 10 hours, but in actuality it took their tech 15-20 hours to fully replace. Also in my situation the back window of my convertible top was tinted. The new window from Mitsu was not tinted. To tint the new window may have been a cost that the dealership had to eat.

I dont know how much approval or denial power a dealer truly has. All I know is the dealer told me that "Mitsu" denied the claim. I then called up corporate and didnt have to much issue getting the top replaced.

I believe that for every cool or mod friendly dealership out there, there is a ****ty, incompetent, out to screw over the customer type dealership. The dealers in my area spit a big game when it comes to sales and purchasing the vehicle, but when it comes to service and warranty they are the worst. I just wouldnt risk it. If you want the warranty then keep it stock

That's partly true.

Dealerships to get paid a lower rate for warranty work. Most shops around here charge 100-120 an hours. Warranty work pays less.

However, if the work isn't covered there's 2 potential problems. 1) The customer get upset with us because they, like you, thought the dealer was responsible for paying their claim. And/or 2) The customer shops around for the lowest shop rate.

Or a 3rd possibility, with Evos, like myself we go find aftermarket stuff to replace it with.

So to answer you question, yes. We get paid less by Mitsu than if we just charged the customer. But it's not in our best interest to do so.
