evo X GSR tranny?

Hi All, i used to have an evo ix se, i sold it and got a 335i, its a great car overall but the raw power of the evo hunts me all the time, i miss it. The biggest problem i had with the evo was the notchy/grindy tranny, i hated it. I drove my buddies STI with short throw shifter and omg, that thing is butter smooth, i loved it, is EVO X any different when it comes to the tranny? does it still grind like hell?

Thanks

yup it is still deff notchy comparing to other cars. I mean i have 600 miles on my evo and the tranny feel like it has 100k on it at times. usually 1st and reveres are most notchy to me at least.

i really like the evo but the grindy/notchy tranny just turns me away and i don't want the SST (MR)..unless its proven to hold around 400whp without issues..

The X can still be a bit notchy but its an awesome transmission. You can do a few things to get rid of the grinding, short shift kit and a lot of bushings and new aftermarket tranny fluid all but clean it up. Mine doesn't grind ever any more. SUPER cold weather is about the only time its a bit notchy, mine is good and broken in now.

Go drive one if you are worried.

I read about the short throw, bushings and tranny fluid helps alo. It doesn't get cold here at all (Arizona) so that wouldn't be a problem, im just worried that it will grind like my 9 SE did, which was a brand new evo.

It might while its being broken in, I remember mine did, but now at 35k miles its smooth as butter. And I have put it through a TON of abuse.

Like I said, its an awesome tranny, just needs a bit of love to get perfect.

I think a test drive is really what you need to see if you like the feel or not.

In the morning when cold the tranny can feel a bit stubborn , but other then that I think its an awesome tranny. I have 66k of solid abuse ( no launching ) and I think its smoother then ever. I recently started an engine build so we'll see how it handles 450+whp, but iv seen plenty of people pushing some good power on these trannys with zero issues

The SST will do just fine. Torque is more of an issue than HP anyway. 400tq seems to be about the breaking point, maybe a bit over. 400HP and you're likely well below 375 torque and not concerned.

Also, doesn't the 335 run a similar quarter mile time (meaning the power is the same whether not it "feels" more tame)?

It's very notchy in stock form... Kracka's shifter package with the red line cocktail was my first mod on the car and probably the best $ spent on the car... 2nd place would go to my tune

No way, tune > any other mod...shifter upgrades are nice though, but tune should be easy number 1 for anyone.
