2012 Evo MR *advise purchase*

Hello all!

I am currently looking at a 2012 Evo X MR with 10k on the clock from Carmax for $34k. Car has premium package and interior sport package. One thing I have noticed that has me some what concerned is it looks like the stock BBS wheels are gone for a set of the GSR enkei's. Does this sound like a good deal? Are there any other parts on the MR that I should verify haven't been also swapped with a GSR? Sorry for the noob questions, this would be my first Evo and I'm looking for a little advice. Thanks so much for any help at all. Hope everyone has a great safe weekend!

Here are some pics:

/cheers

Ask them or look around if there's different parts. If you like the look then go for it, those rims are real nice for stock rims. Post pics or a link maybe?

Here is a close of up the wheel. Sadly, the sale team has no idea about the car. The sales guy spent the first 15 mins calling it a revolution until I couldn't stop from laughing. I had the car shipped from VA to take a drive it. Just a little gun shy as it will be replacing my 08 GTi (that recently pretty much blew up) as my DD.

A new MR with premium is about 38k.

+ Engine looks stock.
+ Aftermarket Navi

- 10k miles
- No BBS rims
- It will need new tires soon.

Price isn't unreasonable. But you may want to see if they will kick in some tires

I think that's a little high for a used MR. Also, I would have CARMAX order the BBS wheel and put them on if you buy it. The Enkei's are standard for the GSR's only (with the exception of the SE's). But like TrogdoWBL said, for about 4k more, you can get a brand new one with the premium package.

FWIW, I would never buy from CARMAX. I've always felt that they overprice the hell out of their vehicles. The only way I would pay that price is if they included a kick a** warranty.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to be located in Columbia, MD would you?

Hmmmm, looking at it now, it looks like it may have had aftermarket wheels on it, and when Carmax ordered replacements, they ordered the GSR wheels because they're cheaper. I would use that as your bargaining chip.

I would do this instead.

First off, I hate carmax. They will not budge on the price regardless if the car is over priced, or is just not up to par based on the value. Second, an MR with GSR wheels to me is a negative. Also, the aftermarket nav is something I would rather pick out, than someone who wanted a cheap alternative to no nav.

This is a 2013 with leather and interior package as well as a few other goodies. Its like $3000 more, and I bet you can get them down another grand, where as carmaxx wont budge. Also i know the distance may not be close, but there are plenty more like it.

Just a couple grand more

If the previous owner swapped out the better BBS wheels, and stuck in a really primitive Nav compared to the OEM Nav+Music Server with 20 GB hard drive, what does that tell you? I would worry about shocks, struts, engine parts - I don't have the know-how to tell, but I wouldn't think of buying any Evo till I had someone who did check it out. Does the Bluetooth work?

$34k?? Have you checked out local dealers? El Cajon in Ca has GSR's with SS for $34,4 , and not much more for NEW MR's.....

I agree with you on the price. I hate how they won't budge on prices.

Yeah, I think your right. I found if I go a few hundred miles away I can get some pretty good deals on a brand new one. I figure they will have more wiggle room on my trade in and a better apr since the car is new. Thanks for the info! Look forward to joining the Evo club soon!

What color are the shocks? They'd better be yellow.

Have you checked that the front rotors are 2-piece design? Also check that it has yellow bilstein shocks and red springs, that one of the reasons you pay more on an mr compared to the gsr

I saw that around here. $34k isn't a terrible price for that but the Enkeis was a killer for me. They told me those were the stock wheels and weren't going to change them out. I told them have a nice day. That price isn't a steal, there are much better finds to be had.

Yeah, that crossed my mind also. Part of me wanted to ignore the red flags
