Used tire question, will ot lead to cataclysmic drivetrain damage?

So I got a set (free) of used Kumho V700 from a buddy at an autocross event. Has about 50% tread left it looks like. He used it for wet autocross run on his rx8. Can I run these safely on the Evo for autocross events? I'm wondering if because the rx8 is rwd the tires may not be all symmetrical in how much it wore down, won't that cause some cataclysmic drive train damage? I remember reading somewhere that you can't replace just 2 tires if you got a flat because it can damage this or that, would that apply to this too? Any suggestions? Maybe get them shaved down? Thanks!

You'll be fine. It's not like you spend a lot of time going straight ahead when autocrossing (if you do, then you're doing it wrong), so why would small differences in diameter have any effect?

I autocrossed an AWD for six years, never buying new tires, always taking the hand-me-downs from a national driver.

If you daily drive on tires of different diameters with Awd, there's a potential to cause damage to drivetrain. Since they have different diameters they will spin at different speeds.

Will it matter on the evo? I'm not the one to answer that question.

My guess is that almost everyone who worries about tiny differences in diameter due to difference in tread-wear does not adjust tire pressure when a couple of big people climb in their back seat. I wonder why that is.

Would you recommend shaving them or heat cycling them? This is my first second hand pair and they seem pretty hard, though not sure if it will soften up after a first run.

No. My suggestion is to stop thinking about this and drive the bloody car. This is a complete non-issue.

What size are the tires and what class do you run in?

Right now I run on the stock tires (dws) but the freebies I will be running on are Kumho V700 245/35-18. Currently running in the Street Tire U class...
