External Fuel Gauge?
External Fuel Gauge?
So far I've been getting 185-200 miles per tank, which is not bad considering the fact that I'm behind the wheel of a gas guzzler (love it so much tho). I feel like I can do more. Last time my fuel gauge went full blank (down to the last indicator, all of the blue dashes vanished). The refuel logo was stuck and I assumed I had about 5 miles or so to get to the gas station. But when I did I only fueled up to 12.2 gal out of the 14.5 gal, which means I had about 30 more miles to go. So I'm considering getting an external fuel gauge along with a boost gauge and an air/fuel gauge and I was wondering if any of you guys have external fuel gauges on your cars.
I want this car so bad. About to buy a 2010 x but am a bit worried about fuel consumption. Yea yea *racecar* but my daily commute is only 1.9 miles x4 so under 8 a day. The car will never have a chance to warm up I'm guessing unless I go for extended cruises every once in a while... I'm definitely interested in an external fuel gauge too.
Am I correct to assume that when the no fuel light pops up there's roughly 2 gallons of fuel left in the tank? And with some mild driving, the possibility of a good 30 miles of driving left? (in emergencies of course)

Well basically, yeah. So why not put it to a good use?
Hasn't that question already been answered? If not (and I'm too lazy to scroll up), it's this: the fuel in the tank acts to keep the fuel-pump cool. Running the car to dead-empty is, therefore, sub-optimal for the pump. Now, whether it will really shorten the pump's life is beyond me (or maybe just my capacity to care), but that's the standard reason given for refilling the car when there's still two gallons left.
