Evo X turns off after startup

Hi, my evo x starts up, but after 2-3 seconds turns off. Six tries later and still the same problem. What could be the problem? The car has 7800 miles and is stock. I've searched the forum, but haven't found any solid answers as to what may be wrong. If it helps, I drive the evo twice a week.

Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like you are still under warranty. Take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it for you. It could be something simple or not...who knows.

Any more info you can provide would help others help you. Have you done anything to your car recently such as a new battery or something (since its stock I'm just guessing here)? Disconnect anything you are positive you connected back correctly? New stereo? Or did this just start suddenly one day?

About two weeks ago, ready to come back home, the car would crank, but not start. It did start on the second try though. Today, the car starts up and moments later just turns off. I've done absolutely nothing to the car other then drive it (and perform regularly scheduled maintenance) . The evo is a 2010, and still has the original relays. There is fuel in the car. Thanks for your post!!

Did the car sit for a long time?

I let the car warm up when I don't use it.

I haven't been to the gas station for about two weeks. I brought my 2010 in 2011, so I'm sure I'm still covered by the warranty. I'll take the evo in this week. I'll keep everyone updated.

Update-- I spoke with a Mitsubishi servicemen and he believes the problem may be the F.A.S.T key. Will bring it in later this week to run a diagnosis. Updates will follow shortly.

The car has been at the dealer for a week now. The problem is still unknown, but apparently there is a case opened with Mitsubishi to figure out the cause of the no start.

A week, eh? That leaves them 23 days until you get a new car. Remind them of this, next time you check in with them.

fast key does not have the ability to kill the car. Imagine if you were doing 80 on the freeway and the batteries in the fast key died...

but keep us posted, something is weird. I hope it didn't take them a week to figure out it was just a dying car battery though...

The older evos did the same thing if you try to start the car without a correctly programmed key. The car would start up but after a couple of seconds the immobilizer would turn the car right back off. So the fast key could definitely be the issue.

Update-- The service department was able to get the car running with the air flow sensor out but continues to stall when plugged in. The FAST key was reprogramed but that wasnt the cause of the problem. They will check the computers next for any clues.

Did you or a previous owner ever use an after-market air-filter? People often over-oil them and kill the MAF.

No I'm the first owner and the car is 100% stock.
