Full exhaust with open downpipe from header?!! Help please
This is my first post, I don't know how to surf a forum because it is my first as well, I am not looking for sarcasm or anything, just help. I am mechanically inclined but i am not so familiar with this car yet, i bought it sat. i got under the vehicle and found this .....IS this a open down pipe off the exhaust manifold? but i still have the full exhaust. How is this affecting back-pressure, as my service engine light came on this morning. The down-pipe come off the passenger side of the exhaust manifold down beside the exhaust down-pipe and then open. How is this hurting the car? Thanks

That looks like an open dump from the wastegate. It is only used when your engine reaches desired boost pressure. Then the wastegate opens and dumps the excess exhaust gas so the turbo won't spool any faster. Also, you're in the wrong section. You want to be asking questions in the Evo X General section.
Turns out the light came on for p1320, which seems to be common for this car? I dont think its the thermostat so im going to have to go with the car needing to be tuned, maybe they flashed it before i bought it and the light was out then after awhile it came it back on? grimy if so
A car with direct dump on the wastegate is 99% sure to have an aftermarket intake. The main cause pf P1320s on our cars is an intake that alters the ability of the MAF to read air-flow the same as OE. So, yes, get a tune.

Think of it as extra overflow air. Your car doesn't want to run too much boost so it bleeds extra out of that hole. Usually it routes back into the exhaust but with a dump it goes out to the atmosphere. It's also much louder under boost.
When max boost is reached the diaphram sees the pressure and actuates a rod which opens a flapper which lets some air go out the other pipe.
