To the original poster of this thread. Do yourself a favor and stay away from cutouts. Just buy a full 3 inch exhaust like the ETS V2 Quiet if noise is a concern of yours.....
still arguing this???

where do you think that dump tube is pointed?

Is it the concept of what pressurized air does when it's released that has you confused?

Yeah that dump tube totally comes out at the middle of the car and builds enough pressure with no load on the motor to open the wastegate. Whatever you saw was the actual exhaust exiting the cutout. You stick to your bolt on parts and 300 hp acting like you know absolutely everything. Maybe when I go to an aftermarket turbo setup ill make my dump tube 4 feet long and exit mid car so you can finally be right.

Thats definitely the exhaust cutout, i have an 02 dump and it cannot build enough boost free revving to open it up. I'm pretty sure it would be one of these with the bolt on exhaust tip pointing to the ground since its exiting around the tp region

so if you both think the cutout is only activating at the :16 mark when that puff or air exits from under the vehicle, then what is it that he activates at the :09 mark that changes the exhaust note making it louder?

Did you hear the backfire just before the 0:15-0:16 mark? thats what caused that burst of exhaust to come out of the cutout. You can tell this isnt the dump because its not nearly loud enough, its located in the testpipe region and you cant open the dump with simply free revving.

ok, i get the not opening the dump free revving.

But I don't agree that that burst is the cutout. Listen to the change in exhaust tone at the :09 mark. This is when he activates the cutout and the point of the video. He's clearly bypassing the muffler somehow when he activates that cutout. The cutout is not a dump to atmosphere underneath the car. It's simply re-routing the exhaust.

Not X specific, but you get the idea. I had one on my 00 Camaro, they are nice but I wonder how well it would work with the tight tuning on an X.

Yeah i see what you mean, i know the qtp testpipe cutout does VTA but i dont think it cuts off the flow to the catback. I'm kinda wondering of the backfire just made its way through the cutout instead of the catback. See what i mean?

^^ yeah I figured that's what people kept meaning. That doesn't explain then why the change in exhaust note around the :09 mark then.

A cutout is manually activated, so if he activated it and it was a vta under the car then we should see exhaust pouring out under the car. But we don't, so I don't believe that cutout ever vents to atmosphere as the exhaust still exits the tips after the change in note. I think it just vents to a pipe that bypasses the muffler, or to the other tail pipe or something.

So that still leaves me wanting an explanation as to what that puff of exhaust gas is when he revs it. If it's not a dump, then what would vent to air there?

Right, i see what you mean. I know some will have the cutout vta and some will have the cutout welded to bypass the muffler. But if it was VTA then we should have seen a lot more exhaust fumes coming out the car and less from the muffler. I'm kinda puzzled as to whats exactly going on as well.
