Angry Shifting into 3rd gear

Hello.

So ... car shifts hard into 3rd gear, I usually need to shift slower or shift at over 4000 rpm which sometimes goes smoother.

Also, when car is warmed up it sometimes goes smoother into 3rd.

Anyone manager to clearly find a solution for this? I found MANY posts with very similar issues. I think someone said it felt like this since new.

Mechanic said that we should check/replace synchro; but statistically speaking I never seen an Evo X case when this problem was fixed by replacing the synchro, but I agree that is what it appears to be the problem.

Anyone fixed this before ?

Driving it is no fun.

I have the same problem with 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. gritty as hell but once it warms up, smooth as butter. I just take it as a warning that car is not warm enough to push hard.

It's a feature not a bug! /formerMSworker

How old is your transmission fluid? Have you replaced any of the factory rubber shifter bushings?

Does replacing the shifter bushings actually help an issue like this?

I'm experiencing a similar issue to OP's.

The transmission oil is around 5000 miles old. I don't remember feeling any change with the new oil change (genuine oil from dealer). Hmm, maybe they messed up the oil type :/

I ordered the RedLine coctail from US, should be here in around a month, I will try that.

I didn't replace any bushings yet but that is next step after RedLine coctail.

Also, today, I driven it warmed up properly and 3rd gear engaged perfectly smooth all the time (tested around 10 times).

Does this mean anything? Mechanic said that synchro might work easier with hot oil, I think he meant it can still be damaged.

I am waiting for an answer like this one: "It was hard to shift into 3rd gear, I fixed/replaced [......] and it worked perfectly after that". Anyone ?

Have you tried pulling the pill from the clutch slave cylinder? that might have something to do with it and it's a cheap easy thing to do that could possibly fix your issue

Many people mentioned removing the pill helped but I like to keep things safe Maybe after I try other things.

Edit: hmm.. I do feel something like a clutch delay when I am shifting.

This pill is only there to keep total noobs from destroying the trans and transfer case. As long as you drive stick reasonably and dont dump the clutch you should be good to go, also as long as you dont lose the pill, you can just reinstall if it dosnt fix your problem

Ditch the crap Mitsu fluid; once you get your Redline in there it will feel much better!

Removing the pill with also help. Beyond that, here is my recommendation: http://www.maperformance.com/krackas...shi-evo-x.html

I'm talking about the people that try to clutch dump from 5k at a dead stop, not someone that takes off normal and the foot slips off the clutch.

Ok, I might order that in next few weeks, I see it has some nice parts including the Beatrush differential bushings/spacers.
