wanting to buy a EVO X thoughts on YR?

i used to own 2 Evo 8's but sold them. I have been out of the game for a while, want to get back into the scene and was thinking of buying a EVO X. can anyone tell me what year is the best? any major changes between the years? i was looking at a 08 pretty much. I do want HID lights tho and the aero package. do those come from the factory on these cars.

thanks guys

Aim for a 2010 or newer. The 2008 has a few minor quirks just like the 2003 VIII had. First model year growing pains...still a great car though.

The car you linked does not have the SS package though so it will have halogen bulbs rather than HID's. This car doesn't have the aero pack either; I'm guessing its the 2010+ sideskirts you like.

The SSS package was offered in 2008 & 2010. 2011+ its just called SS since the big wing became standard.

I feel like it is very hard to
Find one with the SS Package and also I feel like dealers don't really state if it has them.

Easy way to tell by internet pictures is the Rockford Fosgate radio and subwoofer in the trunk.

Get a 2010 or newer. I wouldnt buy the 2008 model due to it being a first model year car. And will have a bunch of issues over time!

speaking from experience my '08 is doing just fine with lots of hard miles on her.

That said, I would look for a 2010. They modified the timing chain a bit, and also changed the center diff pin design a bit. I think in 2011 or 2012 they implemented a system that prevents left foot braking which is

Other than the tune change in 2010, I was always under the impression the '11 changes were more important than the '10, since I thought in '11 they fixed diff pin issues and updated timing chain (supposedly)?

ETA: I didn't see the post above me, if the chain and diff pins were upgraded in '10, then that is coo...

Strong words from a guy who seems like he doesn't even own a Evo.

although it makes perfect sense, don't dismiss 08 just yet. plus, you're buying used. you have no guarantee what kind of condition the car is currently in.

bottom line, if you're buying a used evo and you don't know the owner personally or you can't look up his/her post history on a forum such as this, it's a coin toss.

one thing i hate about my 08 is the center gauge. i hate having to scroll through the menu to see my temp or mgp. i envy those beautiful colored display that shows ALL the info in one screen.

oh and yes, my 08 gsr has been performing flawlessly at 105k miles.

+1 to 2010-Present

I refused to buy an Evo w/o the SS package. The halogens and sound system are so horrible.

There are a few small differences between the 08 and the rest of the model years.

The 08 has a red center info screen like this:

The 10+ has a multicolor center info screen like this:

The 08 has a metal (pretty sure it's aluminum) valve cover while the 10+ switched to a hard plastic valve cover.

In late 2010/early 2011 they released the limited production SE (special edition) model. Only 340 of these where made. In 2010+ they made the MR-Touring edition, basically a fully loaded MR with a sun roof.

Besides this, don't think much has changed throughout the years.

Also the 2012-14 switched to the piano black interior trim over the carbon fiber look of the 2008, 10, and 11. The door trim also switched to a softer, leather looking door trim.

This may be just in my had, but my 2012 stock exhaust sounded louder than my 2013 stock exhaust. And again may be in my head, but my stock 2013 felt a little faster than my 2012.

Also somewhere along the years they quit putting in the AUX jacks.
