standard oil at dealerships
You gotta remember we (dealers) are not employee's of Mitsubishi. So there are a lot of things people think "we" do, when it's really the manufacturer's decision/fault. Please point your your finger in the proper direction. I.E. we don't fill the cars with oil here at the dealer. They come off the truck like that.
Warranties are the biggest one that annoys me. "_____ Dealer voided my warranty!" When is reality we had nothing to do with it.
Maybe a tech can chime in on this. Not an Evo, or even a car. My '07 R1 I bought new. First two oil changes were with conventional oil. After that I was able to use synthetic. According to Yamaha that was for break in purposes. Possibly the same reason for the Evo besides cost?
I just got off the phone with Glendale mitsubishi for an appointment for a oil change
and the guy told me my 2012 Lancer ES needs a full synthetic oil change and
I ask him how much does it cost and he said $90.00... is this serious? $90.00 for a oil change on a regular Lancer?!! Please tell me that dealership is ripping me off -_-.

b) Yes, you're being F'ed in the B! We don't even charge that much for an oil change with Mobile 1! A normal synthetic oil change should be about $65-70

That's the price I was quoted. It ended up being $70. Normally I do my own oil changes but its cold out and I do not have a garage. I didn't feel like rolling around on the ground. It is expensive considering when I do it myself its 30 bucks.
Is that worth $69? If you can do it yourself? Hell no! But when you do it yourself you're literally just paying for a filter and oil. But keep in mind that if you do all of that on your own it requires you to have jack stands, dispose of your own oil, a tire pressure gauge, tread depth gauge and possibly have coolant and washer fluid on hand. All of those require initial cost. So for some people it's worth their time and money just to have the dealer do it.
But $90? That's absurd!

TrogdorWBL...
I always wanted to know if the oil from the factory is a special break-in oil? I see people post about how you should leave that oil in for the first few thousand miles because it helps break-in. Not just with the Evo, but with new cars in general. I changed my oil at around 700 miles because I didn't like how the car didn't have synthetic in it.

I asked the dealer when I picked the car up and they told me conventional was ok to use and I just looked at him and said really ? Still went home and change my oil to 5w-30 full sythe. The hell with them trying to same money. I want was best to make car last for the long road ahead

Mitsubishi has apparently determined that you will get at least 60,001 miles out of the engine if using conventional oil. I have higher goals. However, there may be some benefit to using conventional oil during break in. I went 2200 miles before my first change on my 13, probably would have changed it at 1,000-1,500 if I knew it wasn't synthetic at the time. However, considering the 99,500 trouble free miles I put on my 08 I'm not worried. Amsoil SSO 5W-30 every 5000 miles...
