No synthetic in the manual.

Just use what you like.

They ripped you off. You can get your 1st free oil change but it is conventional because that is what Mitsu now recommends. But you should be able to get synthetic and just pay the difference. If they weren't offering you that, I would call Mitsu then.

My dealer (Glendale Mitsubishi) put 5W-20 in my car. I can't believe they've done this.

Rule of thumb never good to go down in viscosity... but ok to go up to like a 10w30 or 10w40

Its obvious what's going on here is some year models have used different oil viscocity so the techs are not being consistent..... real good reasons to do your own oil changes so you can ensure all is well

However, there may be some benefit to using conventional oil during break in. I went 2200 miles before my first change on my 13, probably would have changed it at 1,000-1,500 if I knew it wasn't synthetic at the time. However, considering the 99,500 trouble free miles I put on my 08 I'm not worried. Amsoil SSO 5W-30 every 5000 miles...
I did waited til I got to 1,200 Miles then switch to syth

Passed on my free oil change. The hassle of waiting, setting up an appointment, Id just rather do it at home.

They changed the viscosity during the model years (08-14)?

Had I known what the factory recommened oil viscosity was, I would have never let them put that in there!

You would think that a Mitsubishi dealership could at least know what type of oil goes in what type of car! Sheesh

I'm not sure if you're directing this question at me, but I was simply stating what the dealer did. I am in no way implicating that the viscosities changed.

No. I stated the question to apagan01 because he was the one who made that comment.

So are all new Evo's shipped with conventional now?

I just got a 2014 GSR and I asked my dealership if Mobil One was in the car. They said, "Yes, it comes with full synthetic, but you can use conventional oil if you'd like."

I'm starting to worry about when I should plan to make the first change.

Honestly man, I don't think anyone will know for sure. Unless you want to send in your oil to be analyzed somewhere.

My dealer told me they are shipped with conventional. People on this forum who work at Mitsu dealerships have said the same. But I think the only way to know 100% for sure, is to send your oil in.

If you want to have synthetic in your car, I would highly recommend you drain the factory oil and put in synthetic.
