A few questions about new GSR

-Hey guys so i just broke 650 miles on my evo and was wondering when you all think it would be safe to boost above 6000 rpm. Some of my uncles told me not too wot till ive rolled a few thousand miles. The owners manual says not to pass 5k till after 500 miles. So would you guys say im good to wot or should I wait a bit longer. Ive hit above 5000 a few times now but not over 6.
-How long do you warm your cars up for, escpecially in the winter. The owners manual says when you see the thermometer guage start increasing then you can go ahead and drive. I guess as long as I stay off of spool till it gets to the middle?
-Do you guys give it a turbo cooldown period when parking? Ive made sure to not wot before parking it and usually sit in it for a few minutes till I turn it off.

Sorry im just new to the turbo world and want to make sure im doing things correctly. Im planning to get a compustar installed next week so these things wont matter, but just wondering for now.

Thanks,

I think you'll receive a wide variety of comments and perspectives on your questions. I suggest that some additional research on these topics will be beneficial though following the owners manual, especially with a stock car, is always a good idea. Thus, at 650 miles, you should be fine, though I'm a fan of frequent oil changes and suggest doing so.

As far as warming up, again, let it get going, be gentle until the temp comes up.

Turbo timer? Up to you, we don't use one but do let the car idle for a few seconds before shutting it down.

I think after 600 miles you would be ok to get on the car more. Wait for 1000 if you are not comfortable with the 600. Others have posted that the engines are already broke in at the factory. The break-in procedure is for the other components on the car (clutch, transmission, etc)

If the temps are or are not cold, I let my car warm up for about 10 mins usually. Thats because I am usually going to work when I drive my car. I get dressed, go outside and start the car, and then finish getting ready (make breakfast, get everything together). This usually takes about 10 mins for me. If I go somewhere on the weekend or something, I probably let it warm up for a few minutes (unless really cold outside). But in both situations, I stay out of boost for the first few miles.

When I get to my destination, I usually just let it idle for about 20 seconds before turning it off. But this is usually because I havent been in boost for awhile, when I get to my end destination.

Sounds like you are doing everything right..
1.You should be fine to drive however you want now.
2. Def let it warm up some.. But I would drive about 10 mins before thinking about getting in to boost. Just because the water temp is good, the tranny hasn't been moving and the oil may not be all the way warmed up..
3. I never used a turbo timer, but I would let the car idle for 30secs-90secs depending on driving style.

It might also be a good time to change the oil and put some 0W-40 in it.

I have about 450 miles on my Evo X right now. I don't baby the car, but I haven't gone past 5k on the tach and haven't opened it up full throttle yet. I was planning on waiting until 600 miles before being more aggressive with the car. Breaking in the clutch/brakes/transmission/etc. is probably just as important as engine/turbo.

I warm up the same way as you. Wait for temp to register, then stay below boost until fully warmed up. This artic weather in NY has increased the warm up time significantly though :/

Since I haven't been pushing the car much, I don't worry about an extended cool down period. I average one or two pulls per driving session, cruise into my apartment complex, and then give it about 30 seconds to cool down.
