Are the pipes too close together?

That's how mine is installed too. Hasn't popped off ever. Tighten the clamps good.

That's a good amount of spacing. Make sure the clamps are tight after each of the pipe's bead. The gap between the pipes (covered by the coupler) is a good buffer that will help with engine movement
