Were you anywhere above half throttle when your car out of gas?

If I ever end up with no bars on the gas gauge (for whatever reason), I only use the very gentle throttle until I refill. I don't only do this to up my mileage; I also do this because I do not want to go lean when air bubbles enter the fuel line. Leanness and biggest loser go hand-in-hand in more places than silly TV shows.

correct. this is a fuel issue.
the car now sputters and studders during cruise.
injector duty cycle wont go pass 15% or so.

took it to kozmic. no codes. so this means that the car's computer is not doing this on purpose.

The relays are all good.

So this means that the car is trying to run normally, but without fuel, it wont go past 4k rpm or etc. it wont go wot. it sputters.
with the help of kozmic motorsports expertise, he worked me in first thing tomorrow morning for a new fuel pump and he is also going to clean out the fuel lines to blow away any possible clogs.

thanks Rawevo and rex for pointing me in the right direction in checking and diagnosing fuel pump related issues.

in otherwords,
when you run out of gas, your stock fuel pump just craps out self destruct.

Sitting in fuel is what cools the pump.

Also keeping your car above 1/4 tank of gas at all times is a wise move because when you are constantly running your tank until empty you are making your fuel pump work harder as the fuel gets lower.

If you do the math, the added pre-pump pressure of even ten extra gallons above the level of the pickup is just about nothing when the pump is responsible for maintaining the required pressure for a boosted, fuel-injected engine. It's about 0.3 psi out of 50 or 60 psi. Not that I'm a nerd that likes to correct people, mind you.

you are correct sir.
i'll take 1 psi over 60psi any day when it comes to imploding/exploding of fuel pumps
