Haven't changed my oil in a year

Hey guys, yep.

I got my last oil change mid February 2013. However this whole winter the car has been stored so I haven't been driving it at all. Occasionally every few weeks I'll fire it up and let it idle so make sure everything is okay. My main concern is could this have screwed anything up? And will it be okay to drive to the shop to get an oil change? I'm right on the service interval mileage wise, so it has only been 3k miles since my last oil change last year, however time wise the car has been sitting with the same oil for a long time.

I am probably just freaking out but, thanks evo m.

-Pat

Nothing to worry about, just drive it to get changed right away. No harm, no foul.

I would be more concerned about the fuel than the oil. Ive read on some forums that gas gets old if staying there too long. So you might want to just drain the fuel or atleast add some fresh fuel in there.

If storing for more than 6 months I would add fuel stabilizer before putting her away. Gas, from what I have read YMMV, starts degrading after 6 months.
Since it's been a year pay attention to how it performs and try to get as much of the old stuff used as you can after you get your oil change, then add fresh new gas (+stabilizer) if you are storing her again.

During this, how long did you let the car idle? The only thing I wold possibly be concerned with is oil dilution, but I'm sure its fine.
Just change the oil and you should be good to go!

I agree about being more worried about the fuel than the oil.

It's fine. It's a consumer car not a NASA space shuttle.

Change the oil and enjoy.

I go by 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.
