Lightbulb [AYC Pump] ...Solution yet??

1. Installing custom box around pump.

2. Sealing it with anti-corrosion, silicone, etc.

3. Rebuild kit.

4. Pump relocation...

Has anyone found a solution that actually works?

From what I gather, it's the cold temps with moisture that causes corrosion on the outside of the pump and travels inward. This brings me to the conclusion that a relocation kit and box cover won't do much since it's still cold in the trunk during winter.

I've talked to some techs at various Mitsubishi dealerships and they had said that the rebuild kit from the US doesn't last long - if at all.

The Evo is a sweet car... but Mitsubishi doesn't seem to care much about this issue that's been around for quite some time already.

Has anyone tried these methods or anything that seems to work over time with good results?

A trunk mount still protects from road salt & water and would be best.

The cold exacerbates corrosion - but does not cause it.

When my pump failed and I had to spend big bucks on a new pump. I decided putting it back in the same place would be insane. I wanted a permanent solution. So I relocated it to the trunk. It took finding a place that could make the line extensions with the fittings I needed (and that wasn't cheap either, about $600). That was the hardest part. The wiring harness has the necessary length, it just needs to pulled out of the bumper and run directly down from the top of the trunk where it comes from, down to the pump (no splicing or anything required). But other than that I am very glad it's in the trunk now (all the way to the right side), nice and dry and totally protected.

I believe some jdm or Russian companies make a box to protect it from corrosion.

I'm a little unfamiliar with this problem, can someone provide more information on how long the ayc pumps typically last? If i'm in Texas with no salt on the roads, am i relatively safe from this issue?

You're not as vulnerable, but you are not necessarily safe.

High temps can also attribute to the ayc pump failing. I know first hand since mine is on it's way out. Seattle weather this year hasn't even been that hot yet.

I had to rebuild my ayc pump when I got the car and mine has been fine with the rebuild kit for over a year now.

There was a thread of someone who made or found some plates that shielded the pump. Kind of a splash guard of sorts. Not sure who made it but it would be worth looking into as I cant find it at the moment.

Anyone try just coating it with rhino liner or liquid latex?

Has Mitsu improved the newer ones?

Was thinking about that - but not sure if that would insulate the pump or not... I don't think more heat would be good on the pump motor. At the moment there is a dealer in Canada that's undercoating them supposedly.

And to my knowledge - Mitsubishi has not improved the newer ones since the 2014's are the same as the 13's.
