Well after dealing with the ACD lights coming on/off for the past 30k miles (mostly on hot days) I finally fixed the problem. I've been browsing the forum and finding many members encountering the same issue, but with the only solution being a replacement from Mitsubishi...until now.

A fellow evoM member in Croatia developed a rebuild kit that is sold by acd tuning here in the sates. So I figured the pump is shot, what the hell...why not!

It took about 2 days because I was having some issues disassembling the unit but I contacted kikiturbo (creator of the kit) and he was very helpful in solving my problems.

So here's what I was dealing with;

Motor removed from the unit


Severe corrosion along the bolts so I had do some extra cutting


All 3 pieces



So following kikiturbo's instructions from his video I began to clean the pump and begin the rebuild. Using a sharp chisel, some dremel sanding wheels and brake cleaner I was able to bring the pump back to life.





After reassembling the pump and testing to see if it worked I cleaned and painted the pump body. I then used some silicone for metal surfaces to seal all the seams.







Next step was to reinstall the pump, bleed the ACD and go for a test drive. Test drive went well NO LIGHTS


I will keep you guys updated as the weather gets hotter if the lights do come back. But after hearing the pump spin at a low rpm and build 10bar of pressure, I'm pretty confident that the problem is solved.

Do you drive your car during the Winter? Just wondering if road salt made your corrosion worse. I've wondered with where that pump is located that it gets slammed with lots of water and salt spray.

 

on US cars it is not so bad because it is in front, on others it is in the back, right next to the back wheel..

Dave, that is one severely corroded pump.. I haven't seen it so bad.. (ok I have but that is on a evo X.. )

I do drive my car in the winter. New England winters and road salt definitely did it's damage (6 years & 92,000 miles)

I did lose my patience a couple of times But then I'd stop have a beer and think it over and then when I calmed down I'd work on it again.


parts were 200, tool kit was another 200. You don't necessarily need the tool kit but it makes tasting and bleeding the pump a whole lot easier. http://acd-tuning.com
