I always test the solenoids when I put the pump togeather by just shooting oil out of the pump...

Good job on the pump, I am glad it is working for you..

My ACD lights all just went on at the last trackday and apparently I seem to have burned all the coils in the motor coz the pump was done-in. Car & engine at 6 years, only 42000miles (1400 track). This was the thread I came to first to see what I could do and what a nice read!

Reading the above question brought to mind that I don't drive it in Winter at all (car hibernates in shelter with no snow touching it) so I wonder how it could get corroded, but I guess it's a known issue on the 9's?

A new motor-pump would cost me 2100bucks USD, so a rebuild is not just more economical but sensible too. I like the idea of a rebuilt pump with custom-fabricated enclosure to prevent/reduce future corrosion. Think I will go in for that and sealing materials to get car back on track.

Thanks for a great thread (and the how-to video)

Vlad - isn't the Evo X ACD pump in the trunk specifically to avoid this kind of corrosion? any pics of the X's corroded pump?

Thanks! I'm glad my rebuild/thread was of use. As for the corrosion/oxidation all it takes is water and oxygen to start it. And given that no road is super clean, I'm sure your roads in MI are salted in the winter, there's got to be some remains on the roads in the spring.

The rebuild seems to have fixed the problem. The car is nearing 100Kmiles and all is well.

Hey i got a question, I purchased my 06 evo with a bad ACD pump but the person i got it from purchased the rebuild kit. Since im very mechanically inclined and like working on my car myself i told him just give me the kit and ill do it myself (instead of waiting for him to do it for 2weeks)

I currently have a CEL on also and when i scanned it the code for the pump came on and it says "system rich" I was just curious of the ACD pump throws up a CEL light on its own?

I never had a CEL, only all 3 ACD lights came on with a defective pump.

This is an EDM Evo 8 with ACD/AYC and the pump in the back.

Here you can see the corrosion very clearly.

Here you see the inside of the pump. The corrosion was so heavy, that the whole edge of the pump broke off...

Everything prepped for cleaning...

Nicely cleaned up, removed all the corossion.

New pump-plate mounted.

Here are some pics of the "problem", the old pump plate.

Pump re-assembled.

Sealed with a lot of kit, so I won't have to do this again, ever...

Everything works again, as it should. The pump easily makes 20 bar pressure...

(after 100 miles) The car drives better than ever... It turns a lot better. With a worn pump, the car feels a bit nervous in corners and like its being held back. So now it drives as it should, and takes corners like a proper race car. Also when accelerating, the car stays completely flat instead of hanging to the back. During hard braking, the car keeps perfectly in track instead of becoming nervous and losing the feel in your steering wheel...

So for all people that are thinking about replacing with a RS diff. Please don't and keep the ACD/AYC system (for the ones that have both) or just the AYC. It is worth it.
