You say that, but the visibility hit you take is enormous. Love the look, hated having it.

 

It's a little rough when it's pitch black outside, but otherwise it is pretty thin and not that bad.

I had an ion redline many years ago that was much worse.

 

At my height I found it perfectly obscured the lightbar of the car behind me. Kind of made it a guessing game if there was a cop in my rearview which was kind of meh to me. Also I found it obscured quite a bit of regular traffic. I loved how it looked, but am liking my MR's visibility much more. <shrug>

Ah. You mean swapping the trunk *lid*.

I'd kinda like to swap my X's *trunk* for a bigger one.

But the X doesn't really need the wing.

The VIII was shaped like the econobox, with a big air split coming off the roof, putting a low pressure zone over the large rear boot lid.
That could amount to nearly half a ton of lift in the rear at speed.
In the FWD econobox, that wasn't too significant, since the rear wheels were just along for the ride, anyway.
But in the AWD EVO, it needed the big spoiler to negate that lift.

The X, by contrast, has a more sloped ("fast-back") rear window, and a smaller and higher boot lid, so it doesn't have the aero lift on the rear that the older EVOs had.
So the tiny lip spoiler is sufficient.


And wings come with a down-side.
Anyone remember Richard Petty's big crash when his Daytona spun back-end first, and the wing pulled the back into the air?
(Pixar reproduced it, almost frame by frame, in their film, "Cars".)
That's why NASCAR machines don't have those big wings, anymore.
(And for F1 fans, remember Mark Webber going airborne?)

The VIII had a bit of that. When I parked with the wind behind me, at 5 kt winds, if I popped the trunk release, the wing would throw the trunk open by itself.
Any higher winds, and you'd risk damage.
