Fuel pump install kit necessary??

So i have a dw65c fuel pump and i got it because it was a direct drop in replacement of the stock unit. I'm having some issues with my tune and my tuner is telling me to get a walboro because he's had some problems with dw's in the past and he no longer tunes on them. I don't mind dropping 90 on a walbro 255 but it seems everyone reccomends the install kit which includes a huge chunk of metal. I don't want a huge chunk of metal... i'm trying to do extreme weight reduction and i'm not cool with an extra 2 lbs. Is there a way to secure the walbro without this 100 dollar chunk of metal?

Umm, it's really not very heavy at all. You could probably rig up something with zip ties and such, but why not just spend the extra bill and make it easier on yourself. Opens up more pump options too.

Well my evo is being built with a methodology of no exceptions. None. I know of no other evo X MR under 3400 lbs with a full tank and still containing all of the stock safety eqpt & amenities.

the kit looks like it would add an easy 2 lbs. a plastic or delrin collar would be a much better option.... maybe i could make one after taking measurements from the MAP one.

I had mine out the other day and would be surprised if it's more than a pound. You could probably make one from cnc'd plastic, but you'd have to use a helicoil for the pump set screws or come up with another way of fixing the pump in place.

Just to update this, I weighed the fuel pump adapter today and it came to 8-5/8 oz, so just over half a pound.
