40 years old living with an Evo X MR daily driver?
I've come from owning and Evo 8 DD for almost 10 years and went with a '14 MR and its a pretty big change in terms of refinement and especially handling. Even though I miss my manual I do think the SST transmission is really good for daily driving. My only complaints about the car so far are the butt part of the seats which are not the most comfortable for DD and I'm a skinny guy and the squeaky brakes....oh and I really miss the rear windshield wiper, sucks without it in he Midwest. Hope you find one for you soon
OP, for sure get a MR if you are looking at a Evo 10. I have a 2014 GSR, and I am 39. The GSR gearing absolutely sucks on the hwy and the 5spd is really noisy compared to the SST. I had a 2010 RA Sportback that had the SST and it was a MUCH better daily driver. I regret not getting the MR.
My 2014 GSR even has the full leather interior with interior upgrades and additional sound deadening like the MR.
My 2014 Fiesta ST is a MUCH better daily driver, even with the Recaros. Of course, that shouldn't surprise anybody.
However, surprisingly, my 2005 Evo 8 was a better daily than my 10. At least to me.
I really miss the rear wiper as well.

Try the 2015 Audi S3/Golf R for comparison if you are not certain. The DSG, build quality and ride quality have been excellent in my S3 so far. I have been averaging 26-29mpg on my daily commute and this car is not slow. I've had 5 Evos so I guess I've been through all iterations of this car. I think the X MR is the next best thing.
another
another 40 something checking in with an evo x mr.
I've got an Evo X MR Touring and I love it. every option available.
Its not super comfy.... its a race car. But I love it.
I daily drive over 140 miles a day. I've had it for a year now. I'm still very satisfied.

But, the insurance on a Evo X will be high... noticeably higher even for your age!
And, the low gas mileage you know...
Wow, 140 miles a day, that's double my mileage... maybe a prius in order?

Insurance?
Insurance for me no accidents 1 ticket over 5 years ago.I pay like 260ish every 6 months 21st century insurance. That is truly affordable what's great about being 40ish is we don't have to pay out the *** like a 22 year old.Granted I only have the bare minimum for coverage but it is insured. Also buy a radar detector it is well worth the investment, don't get a cheapy one.
I pay 560 semi annual w/ Geico. That's w/ no ticket, no accident over last 10 years and I'm over 40. Yes, I did shop around but for some reason Evo X rate is twice as my old VIII rates and every other car.
Maybe it's the state that I'm living in... I was surprised to find this after I'd purchase my X.

I'm 38 and have been using my 2011 Evo MR Touring (fully loaded with all available options) as a daily driver for the past 3 years.
It really has been a great car. I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who both love driving in the Evo. Their child seats fit no problem, even the rear facing infant seat fit just fine.
Downside is the small trunk. I teach scuba sometimes and play paintball. I have a tough time fitting all the gear in the trunk!
In regards to insurance, I pay about $700 a year (so about $58 per month) for full coverage and a $500 deductible through State Farm. About the same as we pay for my wife's new Acura MDX and about the same as I paid for many of my previous cars. There was no notable jump in insurance cost when I switched to the Evo.

I think you'll like it if you can deal with the shortcomings that people listed above. For me the biggest downsides are:
- Small gas tank (~14 gal) for a car that gets low 20s gas mileage on the highway (range is pathetic without filling up).
- Overly buzzy on the highway at speeds in excess of about 65mph (though I expect the 6 speed MR will be better than my 5 speed GSR). The highways are 70+ mph down here so it's more noticeable than when I was in PA.
- Small trunk with no pass through. There really is no excuse for this (the no pass through part). Even with the extra stuff in the trunk (battery/washer fluid) they could have / should have figured out a way to work out a pass through with the bracing.
It's a performance car. It gets bad gas mileage, wears expensive tires, uses a lot of different fluids, has expensive insurance, etc... but you know all that stuff going in and you have to pay to play. The interior is crappy but livable. It's not made of the highest quality materials but the design isn't horrible. That being said, the seats are the only truly "great" part. The other touch points aren't bad. Interior tech is about on par with the worst interior tech fitted to any car with similar option packages.
It's super fun to drive!
