40 years old living with an Evo X MR daily driver?
Hello everyone, I'm Kevin. I do not yet own an Evo X but have been searching and lurking sites like this one for months doing research into buying one. I'm loving this forum and all the excellent info I have found here so I decided to ask my question here.
Is the Evo X a car that a 40 year old man could live with as a daily driver?
I was a 5 and 6 speed boy racer years ago, but switched to an auto a couple years back when I purchased my mint 06 G35 Coupe. I live and work in town, and only occasionally light up the tires with a spirited drive, so the manual was a getting a bit tedious for the daily commute. With that, I am looking at the MR.
My G35 is great, but I owned an old turbo tbird for over 10 years and I miss everything about the turbo. Also, the all wheel drive of the evo would be great for the northern Arkansas ice winters we have here.
I have read about the shorter seat, and at 5'6'' tall, that is a concern for me. I dont plan on modding the car extensively. Maybe a few things here and there...exhaust, wheels, intake, recirc/BOV maybe....and from what I've read, the MR should be fine with that.
If I do decide to buy, I will buy used as I am a school teacher and will never afford a car payment equal to my house payment. 50k to 75k miles on the odometer should fit me just fine.
Any thoughts? Something I should consider? I'd love to hear anyone's input. Thanks so much...

sounds like MR will be perfect for you!
X MR in stock form is comfortable for DD. Recaro seats are anatomically designed for comfort and sport form. Mitsu redesigned the Evo x to be more refined, comfortable, forgiving and safer.. from the 5 / 6 speed manual days of Evo VIII and IX.
I am very much enjoying my 14 MR as DD in stock form and I've had four VIII and IX in modded forms. X MR is a great compromise in performance and comfort and security.
And, I'm older than you! lol

One thing to be 'aware' of, these cars get HORRIBLE mpg's. Not an issue to me, but just thought you might want to know. Anticipate .5 to 2x your current fuel consumption, right foot exercise has to be considered.
I am 33, love my evo x!
I have had 3 prior evo's - 2 extensively built and 1 that I didn't get a chance to. Years later I came back to a 14' evo x and I love it. much more comfortable than the 8's / 9's.
Great car overall...
by bad fuel mpg - I drive a lot on the highway's and I have been getting 24-26 at about 65-75 mph

That is average, that's what the button shows anyways, lol.
After having so many evo's I have learned really what to do and not to do both in mods and driving styles to at least get some economy out of the car, if you are in it yes, they are not great. makes me want to buy a new vette and get 28-30 mpg, lol

Best fuel mileage I ever recorded in my G35 was 26 mpg. All highway trip. In my daily commute, I get 19-20mpg. The fuel mileage of the evo is not an issue for me 👍. I only drive my car around 6000 miles a year, so no worries there, but thanks for the tip!
40 and MR
I am 41,I had wanted an MR since 2008 but I wasn't able to afford one.I own a business now so I was able to buy a used one.Another poster said get one fully loaded that is correct get the nav unit,it has all your maintenance records. One thing I have to mention after owning this car for over a year, the suspension is really stiff at slow speeds.Overall the car is not comfortable I really enjoy driving the car anytime I'm usually in it but slow speed boy racer style it is not for everyone.I've been actually thinking of replacing the car with something else, cayman bmw something, but I do like my car.
I wouldn't.
I'm significantly younger than you, and even I sometimes have thoughts about how stupidly uncomfortable, impractical, and cheap the car is as a DD.
If you're not looking for all out max power and performance, and wouldn't mind a more comfortable manual, check out the WRX/STi's... (Don't burn me for saying that on an Evo forum).
But if you really want the dual clutch, and you think you can deal with the cheap and uncomfortable interior, welcome to the club
