Low performance tires in the snow
I wouldn't run all seasons. Just get a good winter tire and some cheap steelie rims and have fun. Then put the summers back on when the seasons change.
Honestly driving this car with the aggressive stock tires is so much fun I'd at least wear those out before you made a change.

Only reason wanted to do the change now is I was hoping to salvage some money for the stockers. Seems like they go for a pretty penny during racewars... crap.. I mean they seem expensive on tirerack.
Which ones did you drive through the winter? The stock tires?
Yea i just an the stock yokohama's all year round they ended up lasting about 9k miles because of the dumb factory alignment... they prolly would have lasted longer had i known about the factory alignment issue out of the gate.
I don't know the factory alignment issue. I should get an alignment??
They have toe added to the factory alignment, which eats up the stock tires a bit quicker than most would prefer. (mine lasted 12,500 miles with aggressive driving) You can get a place to get it 0 toe all the way but I still wouldn't expect the hyper aggressive stock tires to last more than 20k even driven like a baby...
Yea we get snow here i live in saint louis , MO. They did fine it handled pretty much like any all season tire. They are not ideal but will work if you dont have the extra money for a second set of wheels. Just keep an eye on the air pressure in the them and they will work just fine. I have since gotten a daily driver because i didnt want the salt from the roads to get to the evo in the snow.

I'll pass.
I'm merely trying to help you protect your investment. I've read COUNTLESS threads of Subaru's and EVO's that have damaged their cars because they didn't make getting snow tires or at least all season tires a priority and then went out in the snow and had an accident of some sort.
So there are going to be stories of people that 'made it' through a winter on their stock tires, but I would maintain those are the exception to the rule and got lucky, versus they actually made a good decision and their skill saw them through the season.
Check this video out, and let me know how you feel about running summer tires in the winter:

AWD won't negate the danger of driving summer tires in the winter. If it gets cold enough, you will simply spin all four tires instead of two, and still end up in a ditch or tree if you try and stop suddenly or have to do a high speed turn.

Appreciate it! Yeah its one of the main reasons I chose the Evo. RWD part of the year wasn't cutting it for me. Wanted a one car does all.

Another poster suggested all season, and if you want those year round then I think they would do ok and probably be better than your average car lacking AWD. I had Continental Extreme DWS on my last FWD car, and they were pretty good in the snow for a fairly low profile tire but that still is a 2 where the Hankook on the evo is a 10. Not even in same league. Hope it helps.
