Just went VIII to X
Having owned both, theyre not as different as people like to make them out to be. The OP was spot on, they are the same yet at times different. When i first drove an x i thought go myself "yup, its still an evo". It still has that un mistakeable evo feel. The 4b11 is much smoother and predictable.
That was my car
. I think I was the only guy with an viii to have the spoiler painted a solid color. The carbon fiber just faded so fast if the car was in the sun at all. Here is one of the last pics I have of it from 2012.
Agreed with the comment from Vegasjuice. I still find myself comparing the two almost daily... Have both if you can! I need to update this thread to show some recent pics of the x.

Thats a nice RR! The only thing that still draws me mlre the last gen is pure nostalgia. Growing up drooling over them. I know the X is a superior platform but damm those 8/9 will never die!
the big different from the VIII to the X is the dam big side mirrors. I can't see **** when making sharp left turn and need to look out for the median. :-) So I usually end up turning a little wider for the shake.
I still like the VIII more with the rawness feeling and the old school lower door panel that make me feel less of sitting inside a box. But agreed on the point that at the end of a long work day, sometimes the X will feel better on stop-and-go traffic here in LA.
Still finding myself back to drive the VIII and left the X MR inside the garage.

Congrats on the X. I picked mine up at Peruzzi and the experience was pleasant. As the salesman said, "most people coming here for these cars know more about them than I do". They left me a voicemail the other day trying to get me in a 2015 offering a $500 discount "due to recent recall work", probably because they can't sell them with the crappy seats, 2014 is the better choice. Anyways, enjoy your new ride!
The 2015's will sell fine, probably not happening right now as there are some remaining 2014's lingering around. I would of been fine with a 2015, just would of given me an excuse for getting aftermarket seats quickly
. One downside to the oem recaros is they are quite heavy.
I sure do miss the viii!! If the car wasn't worth so much I would of kept it for another 10 years.
When I bought viii 11 years ago, my roomate at the same time bought a brand new ford taurus. Funny but... my old evo viii today - after 11 years, is worth more than my roomates taurus the day he brought that car home from the dealer lol.

I also bought my 2014 evo x from peruzzi! They are great. I specifically worked with Mick, and I was able to get a great deal. This is by far my favorite car I have owned which includes 06 sti,l and 03 evo. Great to see local evo owners! Great looking cars!

Did you have Mick? He said the same exact thing to me as well!
