I think I blew my clutch on my Evo....again.

Little backstory. I bought a 2014 Evo GSR in April of 2014. at about 4k miles I blew the stock clutch as this was my first manual car I had (Terrible idea.) Anyways, I spent about $1500 and put in a Competition Stage 2 clutch. Figuring it'd be stiffer and be able to handle a little more abuse. Now 6 months after replacing my stock clutch, my Stage 2 is starting to slip.

I know it isn't my daily driving, as I have driven with people who have driven their entire life and they said that I have gotten a lot better and there is no problems with my driving. The only thing I can think of is when I launch it from time to time, I can smell clutch. I would say I launch probably 2-4 times a month since I got it.

It isn't like I am launching at every light, so I am confused on how it could do that. It's looking like I'm going to put another $1500 into it.

Any suggestions? I figured a Stage 2 could handle a little bit more than the stock clutch, but I guess not for long.

TL;DR: Went through a stock and aftermarket clutch in 9 months. I daily drive fine. Could it be from launching 2-4 times a month?

Any help would be great guys, thanks.

Yeah.....probably was a bad idea to make it your first manual trans. I can tell you that i do quite a bit of spirited driving on a stock clutch. I rarely do launches....it's just abusive to a car. If you describe how exactly you launch that might help us figure out your issue too.

I should add all of this happened over a span of 36 hours. Last time it was gradual, now its basically not driveable.

Would so few launches do that to a car?

i am guess your young. nothing wrong with that, just can tell by how your driving.

assuming you had it professional installed by a reputable shop?

its your driving. Not the car. stop launching, it will toast the clutch.

assuming your car isnt modded? stage 2 should be more than enough with dd duty. stop launching.

Update.

I drove to work today and have been sitting on the side of the road the past 45 minutes. Id have it in cruise control and on small hills it would rev up to 7k, then back down. it got to a point where it would not even let me go faster. So Im waiting for a tow now.

I think a lot of you guys are assuming I launch it a lot. I told you guys I launched it probably twice a month. If that. My driving day to day is just fine.

How would the car go from 100% fine to not moving at all within 24 hours?

If the clutch was not adjusted properly you could have been prematurely wearing it if it was dragging. Something to consider...

I am having it towed to a dealership to see if its the clutch or something else, but the place I took it to to put the aftermarket in is reputable and specialize in Evos. but could be a possibility.

Stop launching the car. Just stop it...like right now. Sure the clutch may have not been adjusted properly and they do need to be readjusted from time to time but like I said stop launching the car unless you like buying a new clutch every 6 months.

I think you are doing something a bit wrong while launching it. That being said I don't consider this a launching car, it's an autocross car. It's really tough on your car when you do it, and you have a much higher chance of destroying your TC with a manual if you mess up.

Be easier on your car imo. But if you are determined to launch it, I'd see if you can watch some videos of others or post yourself doing it so people can offer advice?

have the clutch is properly adjusted and not dragging. Also, make sure the clutch pill has been removed.

Pretty simple here this car wieghts 3500 lbs and is awd so....launching this car as much as you do which is actually quite a bit is why your clutch is toast. Like others have said keep it up and it wont be your clutch going out soon. You might want to look up how much the diffs and transfer cases are for this car before you launch again.

On the positive side, pretty soon you'll be able to replace the clutch in your sleep.
