New here, new 2015 GSR

Hi I just found this place, I look forward to learning and seeing what everyone else is up to.

I just got my first evo, a 2015 GSR in phantom black. It only has the interior package. Im from Ohio, I paid $33,000 for it before tax and all that, and paid with a bookbag full of cash. It felt pretty 'G'

I did a lot of negotiating all over to find this, ultimately I leveraged an offer from out of state to get this deal locally.

Just an FYI anyone looking for a brand new 2015, South Park mitsubishi just south of pittsburgh, I talked them down to $32,600 for brand new, never test driven evos, and they have a bunch. They dont have the interior or any packages though. But the dude seemed like a dick, so who knows. I used that offer to get mine right up in cuyuhoga falls ohio.

I don't have any good pictures yet but heres a couple from that day.

Im new to the world of modding so Im pumped to learn from some guys who know a thing or two. Im not gonna do too much right away, i still gotta break it in, but I love it so far. This is literally a dream come true for me, and Ive worked hard for a while to be able to do this. I gotta give credit to getting clean and sober, otherwise I would have never gotten my life together enough to do this.

One thing I have noticed though that bugs me is how short the gears are. After I break it in I figure Ill get it tuned but only conservatively. The thing is fast as all hell but I just wish the gears were a little longer.

Otherwise its absolutely perfect. I cant stop driving it. I even want to right now and its 3 a.m.

I already got followed by a couple cops not 24 hours after having it ha they radio'd ahead and had me tailed even longer too it was great. So my first mod is gonna be a scanner for sure.

I just picked up a 14 GSR and am only at 3xx miles so far. They're cool car and you got a ridiculous price, I'm actually very jealous. My pops also bought a phantom black and the color is gorgeous. Good luck with the ride. As far as the short gears, just gotta get used to it, all Evos have always been like that lol.

congratulations and great price on the car looks good!!

ya the gears may seem a little short but thats also what helps make it fast.. Im sure you'll enjoy it as we all have.

If you decide in the future to mod theres lots of good feedback on here just browse through the forums.. but a tune and couple bolts ons will really wake it up.

thanks guys!

a 14 with 300 miles is more or less the same thing, except you get the recaro seats. I test drove some with those seats and they were a little tight on my shoulders so I liked these ones a bit better.

Yeah I was figuring on that being what helps it accelerate so quickly, just gets kind of annoying when youre trying to behave lol

As for the price I got, I really did bust my *** on negotiating and stood my ground as a lowballing *******, and walked away plenty of times when it definitely wasn't easy, but the patience paid off. They made it simple, cause I showed them the listing for the other car, and pulled up my emails where I negotiated it down to 32,600, and I just said, "match this and save me a road trip" I tried this at quite a few places and they were the first to come close.

Yea Im excited to do some work to it and learn as I go. Ive never done performance upgrades on my cars, only replacing whats there so this will be a new experience for me. Itll be good to have a community for reference on stuff I may not understand

I was so hard pressed on wanting a 14, specifically in white that I didn't have much wiggle room as opposed to the 15's which they're were a lot of...but congrats man you got a ****ing bargain. You will learn to love those short gears once/if you start modding and adding heavy clutches possibly big cams and realize how easy it is to keep the rpms up and have no drive ability issues. My dads z06 with really long gears is so annoying to ow that it has a huge cam since those cars like to cruise at 1-1500 rpm and it bucks so hard unless your over 2k.

Enjoy the car man.

Enjoy the car man.

Most that I negotiated with didn't want to wiggle much either. i sat down with a couple guys at a dealership and negotiated for probably two hours before we parted ways cause we couldn't strike a deal. They just didn't want to move on it enough and I was more than willing to walk away.

but as for the gears, im starting to see how they can benefit. especially today since we got hit by a blizzard and I had to drive a little. It was easy to keep the rpm's low at any speed.

Im about to do my first oil change, im at 300 miles im gonna do it in the morning. I got 5w 30 synthetic blend. By buddy, whos real keen on dsm's and what not, said I should go 10w 40 and not go full synthetic till 2,000 miles. Im just not sure I want to do that cause its so damn cold here right now so I though a lower weight would be smarter, and just follow what the manual says. would 5w 40 be reasonable since I kinda do plan on driving kinda hard?

I dont know I just wanna feel out what you guys think. Im gonna change it again at 1k then at 2k so as it stands now for the 300 ive got the 5w 30 blend so ill do that when I wake up.

Im only saying this based on my research, but theres no point in changing the oil so soon. Most guys do it between 1-1500 miles, i believe, with some actually going further. I plan on doing mine around 1k and going full synthetic. Now im kicking myself in the *** for not haggling on price lmao...good thing i really like this car..oh, and let me give you some invaluable advice..

DO NOT DRIVE IN SNOW WITH THE STOCK TIRES..

I am sure you may have already read that over and over but LISTEN TO IT. I am at 360 miles and almost crashed today because my car decided it did not want to stop when brakes were applied(light snow and well below freezing temps). Only reason i didnt hit the car in front of me was because he realized last second and pulled forward. I also realized driving with the ASC "OFF" made it a lot more controllable since it would lock up the brakes on me with the ASC "ON"

Yea I actually had a similar experience yesterday but it was into an intersection where luckily the cross traffic hadnt started yet and saw it coming lol

I was thinking about getting snow tires but its already so late in the season I thought I might wait til next year

Yep, the stock tires are only rated for 40F and above. Any colder than that and the rubber really hardens up. They put that warning sticker on the driver-side door card for a reason!

'Grats on the purchase, and nice color as well.

Stick with synthetic and the weight recommended by the manual imo. Why risk your warranty?

Enjoy the car!

I ended up doing just that. I couldnt for the life of me get the OE filter off though. I tried like hell with my hands, and trust me Ive got some tough ones off that way before in a fit of frustration.

But the seal on the OE is wider then the replacement which I guess is typical, so non of my oil filter sockets would fit and I didnt have enough room to use the wrench. I cprobably could have taken the covers off and tried then but I said **** it and left it. Im only at 500 miles right now anyways and Im gonna do it again at a thousand or so. It was also 3 a.m. and below zero with nothing but my little kerosene heater in the garage so I though I figured Id just replace it the next time when Im better equipped.

Also ya'll got me thinking so I got winter tires on the way along with these rims here for the winter tires. Ill probably get something a little sexier for the summer tires
