I had never owned a car with a manual transmission before I bought my evo last month. I practiced on my gf's FJ Cruiser a little bit before I got my car.

I got really familiar with the evo gearbox when I was stuck in LA rush hour traffic for 2 hours driving the car home from the dealer.

I moved from a 9 year old STI to EVO X MR. SST is awesome to have. Auto when you need and shift manually when you want to. Test drive it. Interior is not so great apart from the Recaro's but you pay for the technology.
