I had the similar issue. but my car is doing this in all 3 modes in manual.
the rpm range is between 1500 to 2k.
what I do now is I will step on the car harder when it comes off from a stop, so the rpm go up fast enough to not staying in that rpm range.

Do NOT run an AP with your MR!

I had the SAME issue using the Cobb AP. It has something to do with their tuning. I got rid of it and went Open Source. Car runs right as rain. With the AP The car seemed to always idle high, the shifts were clunky and always felt forced at best, and I routinely got a Service Transmission light right before I lost all even or odd gears. I figured it wasn't worth the headache and sold it to a friend that has a GSR. Other than the idle issues, his car runs just fine.

I'm thoroughly convinced that if you run an AP then you MUST get a pro-tune. There's really no way around it and regardless of what Cobb says about their OTS maps and updates, the SST does NOT like their software! My Special Edition didn't like it, my co-workers 12 MR didn't, the person I purchased it from had issues with his 13 MR. Take it from me, ditch it and get yourself a Tactrix table and use one of the free base maps provided here or on EvoX. You'll be soooooo happy that you did.

So i talked to alot of people, ASM, Cobb, Boostin and everyone here. ASM said their maps dont do that. Boostin said to pro tune the car with them and Cobb sent me a test map that i loaded today and seemed to have fixed the problem as of right now however, i will have to get more time under the new map to see if its truly fixed. I can say that the new test map took them almost a week to build or get it to me anyways (not a complaint btw) and seems really nice and smooth. did a log today and sent it to them for review, Log had 3 counts of knock (1,1,1) at around 6500RPMs/ right as i was getting out of a pull and took my foot off the gas. 100%/100% learned for the entire log and 0 knock all the way till i got out of it.

Ill let you guys know what happens next

You're a braver man than myself. I got rid of it ASAP. There's a reason the best SST tuner in the country recommends Open Source. I've ran the AP on every last one of my Subaru's, so I thought I'd try it on my SE too. Never again, not even with a pro-tune. They don't have the same tables as Open Source and I'm not willing to risk having to use my warranty to fix a transmission that failed from software that just doesn't take well to the SST. To each their own though

I agree. Loved the Cobb on my Subi but hell no on the SST. This thing is crazy expensive if it breaks. Glad I live in the same town as Kozmic when the time comes to mod.

I'm waiting for Kozmic to get some free time to handle an e-tune. It's too far for me to drive down there and do it, so I don't have a choice, but to wait it out.

Hey guys, Thanks for all the feedback!!

Okay so here is where I am at this point. Cobb has sent me two MAPs i believe i talked about test MAP 1, it was good on pulls and I couldnt get the trans to "slip" where i could before on demand. We had to make some changes to the idol for MAP 2. Haven't had time to play with it just yet... I did however get a quote from boostin performance for a pro tune. i have been going back and forth between them and AMS (both shops less than 20 mins from my house) however i have seen alot of Boostin tuned Xs out there and i feel like AMS gave up on the x and moved on to Benz, BMW and the GTR... so getting married tomorrow, then honeymoon and then Boostin protune!!

In the meantime, i have to drive around a bit today so ill let you all know how MAP 2 runs. (that way anyone who reads this and has the same issue but no money to protune can work with cobb to try and even-out the issues a bit). i do understand what you all are saying about the AP and the trans, I have a degree in software engineering so i have a basic understanding of trying to mash two operating systems together and that is why i have done 4 pulls on the car after having the AP on it... protune ASAP baby!

if i didnt work so damn much i would put all my time in to learning how to tune these SSTs and just do that on the side!!

Till next time, thanks again everyone

I was curious as well about driving in Sport Mode/Manual if that's the preferred method to prolong the clutch life. Would this apply to the RA as well, since the SST are basically similar. I usually only use Sport Mode when Im doing some aggressive driving on the weekends, other than that usually Normal w/manual thrown into the mix.

Far as the SST filter, 5k miles seems pretty extreme to change the filter, but I guess if ppl feel more comfortable doing it that often.

Yes, same principle. Drive in S-Sport manual all the time, throw it in neutral at stop lights or when stopped in traffic for long periods of time.

Normal and Sport are just eating clutch pad to make it smoother.

What 'mode' are you in? If normal, I have noticed that the car is extremely 'low key' when in normal and will sometimes choose a higher gear than I normally would when accelerating as you described, kind of 'between gears' unless I really mash the accelerator.

If you are just barely touching the gas, I think what you are experiencing is normal. Then again, I feel that your 'normal' should be:

- Drive in S-Sport manually all the time
- At stop lights or long stops in traffic, toss it into neutral

That's the 'best' way to drive the MR, and improve clutch life. It will also allow you to be in the gear you are intending without question and always ready to rock and roll if needed.
This is really bad advice. Dont drive on S-sport for normal driving conditions.

Kozmic recommends s-sport + manual and his word is pretty much bible as it relates to the SST transmission

This ^ is bad advice. Driving in any other mode will cause unnecessary clutch wear.

The only time "Normal" should be used is for long highway trips....Cruise Control FTW.

I'll take the advice of the head of SST tuning at Kozmic's advice thanks.

Also you need to let us know why this is such bad advice? You can't argue anything unless you provide an argument or supporting points. I have rock solid recommendations from the best SST tuner I'd say possibly in the world.

So I take that advice.

You now say this is bad advice, or 'really bad' advice rather. What makes you believe that, what is the basis for that statement?

I had similar SST issues with Cobb AP. I uninstalled it and ran on stock map.

My car does this sometimes when cold. Since the weather has warmed up I haven't seen it happen.
