2015 oil service interval help please.

Hi. I tried searching the forum and didn't come up with too much. Picked up a 2015 and wanted to ask your opinions based on your experiences. From the bits I could gather from searching I should run full synthetic. Good. No problem.

When do you think I should do my first oil change? And at what frequency (stick to 3,500 miles)? Thanks!!

Even with full synthetic I would change it every 3 months or 3,000 miles. I run Brad Penn, partial synthetic, and I change my oil every 2,000-2,500 miles.

My first oil change was on 1300 miles

I would prefer change the transmission, transfer case and rear differential oil around 3000 miles as well.

You change all of those every 3,000 miles?

Nope....I meant 3000 miles on the clock.... in order to clean out the metal after breaking-in

LOL! That's what my dealer would love to tell me. They keep telling me all the time to change those 4WD fluids and to service the brake, although I think 4WD fluids being changed every 30k miles and the brake being serviced every time before an autocross event is more than enough.

All of this information is available in the manual. Full synthetic oil is recommended, don't see why you would need anything else.

I do my changes between 3-5k miles dependent upon what the driving was for the time period. As others said, probably good to do the first one sooner during the break-in.

Cheers.

3k mile oil changes on synthetic is a complete waste of money.

I did my first change at about 3k miles but will go to 5k intervals from there using synthetic.

Synthetic oil doesn't break down like old dino oil. If you're really worried, change your filter every 2500 and change the actual oil about 10k. Topping off as needed.

Some engines are just dirtier than others. There are companies that you can send samples of your oil to if you are that concerned.

I am very interested in knowing how to change the oil filter and not change the oil without making a complete mess.

You would only loose the oil thats in the filter. When the car is off there is no oil pressure. The oil in the pan will still stay there. You would just have to run it, check level, and top off after the oil filter is changed. By mess do you mean the oil that trickles down as your removing the filter? If so put a catch bucket under the filter, break it loose, punch hole in the bottom of it and let it drain.

Thanks. I was reading the forum and many were saying the early 3,500 oil changes were needed because of the turbo. I don't know what to believe. I've driven AMG's and M cars so now I'm confused on which way to go. I too am surprised at synthetics needing changes that early on.

Can I get some help on this please?

Manual says 3k intervals. My 2015 Maintenance Manual doesn't show like the ones linked. There is no second service option for 5k intervals. I guess I have to do full synthetics every 3k?? That seems kind of crazy. Then again, I've never done a Japanese turbo car. Any tips appreciated.

And I have read on the forums of people saying the first change is free. Is that true?

The 1st oil change coupon is included in the welcome package, but the oil is conventional oil. You need to pay extra for the synthetics oil.
