what to look for when buying a high mileage evo?
Hi guys! So recently I saw an evo x 2008 GSR with 130 000 kms which is about 81 000 miles, going for $22 000 which is in my budget! Evo's have been my dream car since I was a child so seeing one in my budget makes me happy! I am in need of a new car and was contemplating a 2008 honda civic si which will last and is much cheaper but I've always wanted an evo. I'm also wanting to keep this car forever. I will occasionally drive it hard when roads are wide open or merging into a wide open highway. I'm hoping that it will last at least make it to 150 000 miles
The evo would be my daily driver, however I would add bolt ons just to make it more fun. I know that the engine life depends on how hard the car was driven and how well it is maintained, but I'm just wondering how long do the stock evo engines last? Also would you guys buy this evo personally or buy a civic si? Also what do I check for when looking at the car?
Thanks for the help guys!

No experience with buying higher mileage X's but of course the major thing is to test drive it. listen for any driveline noises like a t-case, diff, driveshaft or engine noises and pull the dipstick to see how oil is. Test to see if the clutch is still good - I usually put in 5th gear and slowly let off which it should want to stall.. If anything get the VIN # and call the dealer for any open recalls. Have them run a carfax to see what that tells you. Besides that if you go with a used Evo I would change all fluids even if they say they did them bc you just never know unless it s reputable Aft Mkt shop then its up to you. Hope this helps a little on your search. Good Luck!
That price seems pretty high for that year/mileage. I bought my 2011 w/47k miles for around $26k. It took me a little over a year to find this deal, so unless you really need an Evo right now, I would pass and keep looking around.
Oh wow. Evos with 47k miles go for like $31000ish where I live. Yeah I'll probably test drive to see how it is first and if not there's also a 49k mile sti for 29k that I'll take a look at but personally I would take an evo over a sti anyday
I am going to test drive a 2014 with 18k miles on it today. I will post how much the dealership is asking and maybe gather some data. I live in Sandy, UT
