Launch control on manual lancer
Launch control on manual lancer
Hi,
Just wondering how you guys do launch control on your manual lancers/evos? I've never tried it yet, but I'd love to get more info before I really do it (saving my transmission).
I believe it's '1st gear+clutch down+gas floor pedel and hold rev' -> 'don't release the clutch too quickly but relatively faster than normal starting' -> 'to whatever gear it should be' -> 'keep going'. Correct me if I'm generally wrong (hope I'm not)...
Now questions:
1. I'm driving an EVO FE. The clutch pedal is heavy and it travels quite a long distance. Also, the biting point is quite high. When I'm doing '1st gear+clutch down+gas floor pedel and hold rev', can I lift the clutch and hold it close to the biting point? I suppose it won't burn the clutch yet and the car won't be moving yet.
2. Normally, I can start from 0km/h to 60km/h in 1st gear if I start hard. I believe it should definitely happen when doing launch control. Now, you are at least 50-60 km/h or more after launching and you are still in 1st gear, A. Which is the next gear you are going for if you want more acceleration and get faster? B. Which is the next gear you are going for if you just wanted a fast 0-60 km/h?
3. I knew power shift (don't let off the gas while shifting; power shift when lower than 3rd gear) and quick shift (let off the gas, pull the stick out of gear, clutch and next gear; quick shift for higher than 3rd gear) may not be recommended for the sake of the beloved transmission. However, do you always push your clutch all the way to the floor while shifting? Well, the biting point is quite high, so why not just push the clutch half way or 1/3 way in as long as it passes the biting point, and then shift - I suppose this can be fast.
Thank you!

No launch control on manual, be very careful the transfer case is a $4500.00 part. Honestly unless you are built for it, I don't believe in launching these cars. These are autocross cars and not light to light cars.
Aside from that your clutches aren't going to last very long, nor your car, if that's how drive stick.
Enjoy the car, but these things are no indestructible. And I would take your car to an autocross event to experience what makes this car fun. Racing flatbills light to light isn't this cars purpose.

2-Step? Hold the ASC button down for a few seconds until you here a ding. First gear, clutch in, floor it. I wouldn't do this repeatedly unless you plan on spending a few thousand on drivetrain parts. Also the clutch is considered a wear item, so Mitsu won't replace it for free.

Actually... you don't have to turn off ASC to achieve the "2-step" sound thingyyy..
Yes competitively I could see that, but then get the MR with built in launch control. It's too easy to lunch something expensive when you try it in the GSR. Also I figure a tiny bit slower off the line and you make that up easily in the turns over the whole course. Dunno I just never am a fan of launching these AWD turbo cars. Didn't do it in my 08 STi, did it once or twice in my MR then meh never again. Never tried it in my GSR either.

I launch hard at every autocross. I just don't do it on the first run to let the tranny fluid come up to temp. I also have the stock clutch so I figure the softness there protects the drivetrain somewhat.I don't just dump the clutch, I let it load up and then let it out quick but smooth. 50+ such launches on the stock clutch no drivetrain issues yet.
technically call something as a launch control in boosted cars, its a special feature which can build boost when the car standing still.
with advanced ECUs, you dont even push any button. as soon as your speed is O, the ecu automatically turns it on.
in the stock evo the 2 steopis basically more like a safety feature then actual launch control. So as the clutch pill.
it hold the rpm steady at 5500 rpm as op. said it. the clutch pill should prevent too radical. clutch engage.
