Help: 2011 X MR. Winding/whirring noise
Help: 2011 X MR. Winding/whirring noise
So I don't know how to explain this noise, but there is like a winding/whirring noise coming from my engine. The sound gets faster the higher the rpms get. I know this sounds stupid but the best way I can explain it is, it's like a wawawa noise. XD Please help. I tried to see if I can notice it while in idle with the hood open. I notice the sound coming from "maybe" behind the block when the fans kick on.
Also, this is more of a problem I think I know what it is, but I'll mention it. In SST manual, when driving in 2nd gear for a short duration of time (like if I'm driving around in a neighborhood) my "trans service req" light comes on. One time (doesn't happen everytime the light pops) after the light turned on it started to skip 2nd and 4th. What could be the cause of this. I'm mentally prepared if I have to get my tranny repaired or rebuilt..
P.S. It's not the whistle/whine that people have talked about.
Edit: 68xxx miles
Edit 2: Everything is stock, but the guy who had it before me had full bolt ons and said was pushing close to 400tq

Guy who sold it is/was pushing too much torque. Sounds like you are losing the magnet in your 2nd/4th fork. You are close enough to Kozmic Motorsports in Houston thankfully, so they can repair that issue. (They are one of the best, if not the best people to work on an SST) You should also have them check your parts and properly tune your car because the SST should not exceed 350tq as it leads to problems. You also may be behind on a transmission fluid service, which you will do at the time of the transmission repair. That's around 500
The magnet fix is around 2k, if that is the only issue, and the tune is around 500 just so you have a rough idea of cost.
Good luck, but thankfully you are in Texas so good! The other thing to know is the SST is very good at protecting itself so once that magnet goes 100% your transmission will protect itself by locking out 2nd and 4th gears.

Yea I figured as much on the transmission. :/ I changed the trans fluid at around 66k miles so I know I'm good on that. Definitely plan on taking it to kozmic once I get some more money XD. Still trying to figure out the winding/whirring noise. Thanks for the response
