who does oil changes > 3k intervals?

Our motors see much more heat/pressure/wear than your average car. Its a relatively high output in a very small package (2L).
On a 3L turbo car like a 335i, of course you can go a bit longer on the intervals because they dont get anywhere near as hot, and they run less than half of the amount of boost a stock evo does.
Thats why you can go 7000 miles (insane) on mobil 1 with a bone stock 335, and the oil comes out not pitch black. On any evo, if you beat the **** out of it then that oil will be pitch black by 3000 miles. Ive repeated this many times.

I wouldn't use engine capacity as a means to compare when to gauge your oil change interval. Comparing between different manufacturers and/or capacity to gauge interval seems even more illogical. Too many differences in engineering.
I keep used oil in clear containers prior to recycling and you can literally see the difference in color and opacity between a 5k and 3.5k change. After 3.5k the car feels less boost happy to me and that's the point I prefer new oil in. Why increase chain stretch risks due to something as simple as an oil change?

I change my oil religiously every 5,000 miles on my MHI-18k E85 car. My evo x just passed 100,000 miles and has 0 issues. No oil consumption problems and had no signs it's burning oil. Since the start I always warm up until I have a bar on the temp gauge before moving and never boost the first 2-3 miles of a drive (you would be surprised how long oil really takes to warm up). I also have run a turbo timer and cool the car down by not boosting when within a mile of my destination. Unless you are racing on a track 3,000 mile oil changes are not necessary and I would go as far as saying is a waste.

I've done 3 in the first 5500 of my car. Well I guess one was after the motors break in period. Like 24boosted said I prefer to change it when boost starts feeling sluggish, I work at Napa and my boys shop is right down the street so I check it often and if it needs oil get it done immediately.

You are welcome. Just so you know I do baby my car and 75+ percent of those are highway miles (daily driven 100 miles a day!) . If I drove the **** out of the car I might do things a little differently.

I go 4-5k driving spiritedly on my 05 MR. I currently have 112,000 miles with no oil leaks or excessive blowby. If i'm going to the track or know I will push the car I will change it sooner but for the most part I just drive it to work and around town.

black oil does != bad oil. it's ability to lubricate or provide protection has nothing to do with its color.
like posted above, if you really want to know, send it to blackstone.
if you're worried about your oil and motor, change your filter more. that's what actually gets dirty and needs replacing more than the actual oil. especially synthetic.
