So recently when I turn my car off the ignition switch will not lock and when I open my door says that I need to lock it. I never can lock it so the car just powers down like normal. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Thank you for the help.
Yeah you i've tried and you don't have to do it in the first place. When I park my car and turn off the car the switch will not lock and when I open the door the alarm goes off telling me to lock
I have a fast key MR so I do not know about other options.
overview:Ignition switch has a mechanism that when you put the car in parking the shifter stick has a beak(trim) that pushes down on a lever which then pulls on a string that releases the lock from the ignition switch.
I know of Two scenarios
one the lever or string are stuck or unattached
Two my scenario the trim worn out or cracked. In my case the “ramps”(circled in red in attached photos) are worn making the beak(circled in yellow) go under the lever(marked with green).
