New to the Evo life! 2 weeks in and my X is broken...

Hey guys, I thought that I'd introduce myself. I joined this forum a while back but I haven't posted anything, I've been doing a lot of research though. From all of my research I decided to purchase an '08 Evo X MR. Initially I wanted to stay away from the SST transmission because I'd have to limit myself to 350 wtq. That was the case until I found this car with only 78000 km's, a new engine swapped from a 2015 gsr and a built SST transmission with 600 hp clutch packs, SSP oil cooler and an SSP Flywheel. I thought that it was perfect because it was all stock except for the built transmission! That is, until after I owned it for 2 weeks and it broke.

Somehow the flywheel has become separated from the crankshaft. I have my suspicions that the mechanic that installed the new engine didn't torque the flywheel properly and the bolts backed out. It's really disappointing because after only 2 weeks of ownership I have to pay to have the transmission removed and get this repaired. I contacted the shop that did the work on the car and they claim that it's not there fault and won't do anything for me. Also, being that it was a private sale I have no recourse on having it fixed by the seller and I'll be paying out of pocket. It's pretty discouraging to say the least...

Yesterday I sent the car to a shop in Toronto that specializes in dual clutch transmissions... SJL Custom Auto. The owner, Steve, was highly recommended by Kris at SSP and has actually worked with SSP to develop parts for our SST transmissions. I'm hoping that they can get my car fixed up quickly - and affordably!

Once I get my car back I'll be installing the first round of mods that I bought before my car broke. The mod list is pretty simple: K&N Panel filter, Depot turbo inlet pipe, Muse uicp, UR DP & MP, AMS single catback Exhaust, Innovate LC2, and Boost, oil pressure, & Wideband gauges. I also have an open port 2.0 tactrix cable and I am thinking about getting an etune from WTF Tuning.

Anyhow, that's my story for now.. I'll post with updates!

Damn. That's rough. After 2 weeks.

Something similar happened to a friend. Paid a local mechanic to drop in a freshly built motor (dsm). Couple weeks later he was doing some highway pulls when he heard a loud noise. Sure enough, the flywheel bolts backed out. Man he was pissed.

That's true. I guess I was pretty lucky in the past when I bought my DSM. Not that I haven't had my fair share of problems and failures with that car but that was from me modding it and racing it. I've come to the realization that the seller probably knew that there was something wrong with the car and ripped me off. When I initially went to look at the car it was at the shop where all of the work was done on it and the mechanic was there. He put it on the hoist and let me inspect it and took me for a test drive. Everything was done so I was ensured that all was great with the car. Now that I look back it seems like they were putting on a good show to pull the wool over my eyes...

It turns out that the previous owner blew up the original engine after installing a bigger turbo. Then he decided that he wanted a 5 speed instead of the SST so he bought a 2015 GSR. He then had the blown engine from the 2008 rebuilt and swapped the 2015 engine into the 2008. It seems pretty crazy but I guess it was a good option for him to get a built engine into his new car and get the most amount of money from his old car..

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of anyone doing.

This is mind blowing. So you had a manual MR? Did that not give you warning flags right away or did you just not know? Personally, I wouldn't touch a 08 MR. You know there will be issues.

By the way, I saw your post on MCC. Sucks man, really sucks. I would be telling the OG owner that hes a f**king idiot.

I don't think it's the dumbest thing, blowing up the engine by putting a huge turbo on the stock block was pretty stupid though... It makes sense to me, he wanted to put the car back to stock for resale. He took all of his bolt ons from the 08 and swapped them to the 2015 stock parts as well. Suspension, Exhaust, wheels and tires, etc.. A 2008 MR with bolt ons and a blown engine wouldn't have gotten him very much money! Maybe I'm the dumb one who bought the car thinking that everything was installed properly and working the way that it is supposed to..

No, my MR has a built sst transmission. The previous owner bought a 2015 GSR because he wanted a 5 speed instead. He just had the engines and bolt ons swapped...

It's good to see another MCC member on here... I'll be in touch with the previous owner and shop who worked on the car again once the car is all fixed and I have proof of what caused the failure... Either way Karma's a *****, it'll come back on them..

So he decided to then tank the value of a perfectly brand new car?

Am I missing something, or is this the dumbest idea in the history of car modding?

Now the resale value on the 2015 is shot to hell and you have a car that is going to cost big bucks to fix.
